Christian Parenting: Creating a Legacy

Christian Parenting: Creating a Legacy

I always say that parenting is hard stuff. 'Cause it is. Truly. We all want to raise great kids who'll become good adults. But, as a Christian parent we also want to raise them knowing who God is; having a relationship with Jesus. We compete with so many things this day and age. Our kids are busier than ever and have many things vying for their attention. What's a parent to do? This is why I appreciate this book from Dr. Dobson. I've appreciated Dobson's ministry to families and this book is … [Read more...]

Resolutions to Be More Like Jesus

My resolution every year is to get closer to Jesus than I was the year before. I want to be like Jesus and I want others to see Jesus living in me. The new Believe NIV topical Bible from Randy Frazee is a great way to meet that resolution. About Believe NIV Believe includes short topical passages from the NIV Bible, unlocking the 10 key beliefs, 10 key practices, and 10 key virtues that help people live the story of the Bible. 8 Qualities of a Winner

With the New Year upon us all, I know many have made resolutions. You might not have declared those resolutions yet, but in your mind I am sure you are making decisions on doing better in your life in some areas. That is what is so great about the New Year. It gives us a chance to reflect on the past year and enables us to make the necessary changes that can make 2015 even better. This is why I love books like You Can, You Will by Joel Osteen. Books like this make it easier to make changes in … [Read more...]

Reading to Her Brother (melts my heart)

My Princess is reading a lot better now that were a few months into first grade. She still doesn't love it, but she is doing pretty good with it. Unless you make her read, she will always ask you to read for her. I do my best to make her try to read all the signs and directions and titles we come across now. She fights it still. But every now and then, I catch my Princess next to her little brother reading to him. He LOVES books and always wants to be read to. I am a big fan of books. I … [Read more...]

True Christianity: Representing Jesus Well

Most of you know that my husband is a minister. He doesn't pastor a church though. He coordinates outreach for about 100 churches in Washington state. I know I am biased, but my husband is awesome, and I really am blessed to be married to him. There isn't a person he can't talk to, pray with, witness too - he connects well with people of all faiths, ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses. As he works to train church members how to effectively share Jesus with their circle of influence, … [Read more...]

Our Black Friday involved Rudolph!

November 29, 2014 By LaVonne

We have a family tradition of putting up our Christmas tree and in-house Christmas decorations up on the day after Thanksgiving - always in the evening. We listen to Christmas music and drink hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows. My Princess has been counting down all week to do it. This special family night really is a highlight of our entire year.  We still use an artificial tree that we've used for the last decade. My awesome hubby, puts the color coated branches in each assigned slot, while … [Read more...]

Growing Up Social: Parenting in this High-Tech World

Parenting in this High-Tech World #growingupsocial

Is technology bringing your family closer together or driving you farther apart? I've recently been talking about technology and how old is the appropriate age for a cell phone. I know kids are getting their own cell phones a lot younger these days. It is the world we are living in. I am amazed at how quickly my six year old picks up apps on the cell phone and tablet. She is a product of a high-tech society for sure. Don't get me wrong. These are exciting times we are living in. Knowledge about … [Read more...]
