Will These Kids Always Get Sick?

Will These Kids Always Get Sick?

We are in the third month of the year and so far, each month has resulted in the kids being sick. It is making me wonder - will these kids of mine always get sick so easily? Is dealing with sickness the norm for most families? We travel so much and expose them to so many germs that I wonder if we are a bit at fault. Maybe I should be making sure they eat healthier, sanitize more, and wash hands religiously? We are having a great seminar in Arkansas this month. We opened with about 140 people … [Read more...]

Eye Surgery Is Not Fun {Plus a Teething Baby!}

February 18, 2013 By LaVonne

I haven't really talked much about my eye surgery. I guess, I have not wanted to dwell on it or talk about how worried I am about it. I have blogged about my eye issues. I was dealing with a watery eye and a couple of eye infections since October. In January, I found out I had a blocked tear duct. The doctor probed my tear duct and tried to flush it out with saline and the liquid pored down my face. It was definitely blocked. I needed eye surgery - DCR for short, the long name of the surgery … [Read more...]

Heart Disease Prevention

February 15, 2013 By LaVonne

My husband has heart disease in his family. I will admit that he is the healthy one in our marriage. Because of his family history of heart disease, he watches what he eats, exercises, and eats steel cut oatmeal every morning. But did you know that more women die of heart disease than men? It is true. So eating a heart healthy diet and exercise is important for me in heart disease prevention as well. American Heart Month February is Heart Health Month and during this special time, Quaker is … [Read more...]

February 4, 2013 By LaVonne

Have you heard about RSV? This is my second post about RSV. I wanted to share some personal tips on how we keep our family as healthy as possible during this time of year. We have two children under the age of 6 and they have a large exposure to contagious germs and viruses. My kids love close personal contact with others and my 5 year old washes her hands but still could use help. Those two behaviors combined with our travel lifestyle creates an environment for infection spreading. Because … [Read more...]

prematurity awareness

Did you know that November 17th is Preemie Awareness Day? I did not. I am very thankful that both my children were full term. But I do know that many women have their babies early. Here in Indiana we had the opportunity to meet a women who's baby came at 25 weeks. She has a petite little girl who is nearing her first birthday, but she is not the same size as an almost 1 year old. About World Prematurity Awareness Day Did you know that worldwide, 13 million babies are born early every year, … [Read more...]

Pink Eye Natural Remedy and More Uses for Breast Milk!

October 30, 2012 By LaVonne

uses for breast milk

So I arrived in Indiana and my right eye started bothering me. At first I chalked up to old contacts and decided to change them. Nope, that was not the problem. When I woke up with a crusty eye (that just sounds gross to say!), I knew I had picked up pink eye. Maybe on the airplane? Not sure. Off to Google I went in search of a natural remedy for pink eye. Guess what I found? Yep, breast milk! So for two days I put breast milk in my right eye. It was quite soothing to my eye, but when I woke … [Read more...]
