Pink Eye Natural Remedy and More Uses for Breast Milk!

uses for breast milk

So I arrived in Indiana and my right eye started bothering me. At first I chalked up to old contacts and decided to change them. Nope, that was not the problem. When I woke up with a crusty eye (that just sounds gross to say!), I knew I had picked up pink eye. Maybe on the airplane? Not sure.

Off to Google I went in search of a natural remedy for pink eye. Guess what I found? Yep, breast milk! So for two days I put breast milk in my right eye. It was quite soothing to my eye, but when I woke up with a completely crusted shut eye I decided it was time for medical intervention.

I really didn’t want my Little Man or Princess to get pink eye, so I didn’t keep up with the breast milk for long enough I am sure. I did squirt some of my milk in both of my Little Man’s eyes a few times this week and he has not yet caught pink eye and it is quite catchy.

10 Uses for Breast Milk (other than the obvious use)

  • Pink Eye
  • Mosquito Bites
  • Diaper Rash
  • Ear Infection
  • Eye Makeup Remover
  • Stuffy Nose
  • Minor Scratches and Scrapes
  • Contact Solution
  • Cold Sore
  • Acne

We have used breast milk for pink eye, diaper rash, and minor scratches and scrapes. Now, I will have to use it for more of these! It is quite exciting – since breast milk is free for our family right now.

What have you used breast milk for besides feeding your baby?

My daughter had a clogged duct in her eye since shortly after birth. We used breast milk to keep it under control until it fixed itself. Worked like a charm! We also used it for both my son and daughter’s baby acne.

I’ve used it on baby girl’s diaper rash and scratches, but I don’t know that I’d use it for contact lens or to remove eye makeup. Interesting list though!

If you run out of contact solution it is supposed to be safe since it is sterile. It is not meant to be used solely. I have used water but that doesn’t feel good in the morning. LOL!

Great post. I knew about the pink eye but not the others. Glad that you are on the mend.

Breast milk is the best. I breast-fed my two kids for 17 months and feel so fortunate to have been able to do so.

Thanks Sarah. I breast fed my Princess until 2 weeks after her 2nd birthday. I hope to do it again for 2 years with my Little Man. It is so great for them!

My four kids only breastfed a minute so I had no idea it could be healing. I do a pseudo attachment parenting that includes baby wearing, co-sleeping and bottles 😀

I used to spray it on my kiddos butts when I changed their diapers, they rarely got diaper rash. I even sprayed it on a wound my hubby got on his side and it healed nicely. I’m sure I sprayed it in my kids eyes too. I know I used it for almost everything, as it was always so easy to spray out and my kids loved it so much. Hubby thought it was gross when I sprayed his wound, but he had seen me spray the kids so much, he let me spray him!
