Funeral Moment

September 3, 2010 By LaVonne

This week we had a funeral to attend for a family friend. He was an older man who had been sick for quite some time. A WWII vet (he was at Normandy and Battle of the Bulge), tribal leader, grandfather, and genuinely kind man. The funeral was truly a celebration of his great life. So when my Princess asked to pay her respects (she didn’t say that, she actually said, “I want to see the man who died.”) and view his body, I was hesitant. But I don’t want her to be afraid of something natural like … [Read more...]

Prayer Request

September 2, 2010 By LaVonne

We are driving 20 hours starting tonight. When I say we, I don’t mean me. Family carpooling. Toddler traveling. 101 degrees on arrival. I must be crazy. My aunt is quite sick. Her heart is functioning at 10% right now and the doctor has said she does not have a lot of time left. Though we are sad, we are thankful that we have the opportunity to spend some quality time with her. I am thankful that she is a Christian. There is hope beyond the grave!   So, as you read this, … [Read more...]

Edamame Is Good For You

September 2, 2010 By LaVonne

And my Princess loves it!    Edamame are green soybeans in the pod that are picked before they ripen. Preparing edamame is so easy too. We buy it ours frozen at the local grocery store. You can easily find it organic, which are happy for; soybeans truly are best when bought organic. They even sell them dry roasted to eat as a snack. The frozen edamame just needs to be boiled for 5 minutes and we like to lightly salt them. A quick and healthy side to any plate; much better with … [Read more...]

Dentist Visit

August 28, 2010 By LaVonne

Went so well this week because my Princess is BRAVE. Very brave. We noticed a small spot on her molar and though maybe she had a cavity. I was praying hard that she would not have to endure a cavity at the age of 2.After the first regular check up and cleaning with the hygienist there was no cavity. Whew! (We are super good about teeth brushing here since our Princess was a baby.) But they did mention that our Princess has deep grooves in her teeth making it easy for bacteria to live … [Read more...]

Splash Park

August 27, 2010 By LaVonne

I found a great website that lists Splash Parks by state. There is one near us! The best news? It is free and fun. Do you have one near you? You can't beat free fun in 80 degree weather. My Princess loves it. It not only has a water park but also a playground. We brought our lunch this week and ate at one of the many picnic tables. This is a great frugal summertime tip.For more Frugal Friday visit Life As Mom. … [Read more...]

Toddler Swimming

August 26, 2010 By LaVonne

Yes, she is!My Princess is now able to swim. A little bit. With her UV 50 Flotation Swim Suit. But still. I am Super Proud! I mean she is only 2 1/2 years old. This week, we pulled out the $4 clearance, BOYS flotation swimsuit (shhh.. don't tell her. It is green!) that her Papa bought her last year. Daddy spent 1.5 hours in our pool and that was all it took. She was swimming like a fish. Well, a fish stuck in mostly one place. But really good nonetheless.A common phrase we hear now from … [Read more...]
