Coast Salish Day

July 11, 2011 By LaVonne

You know from my 100 Things page that I am Native American. I am Coast Salish from Swinomish, Lummi and Tulalip. It is always nice to be home in the summer for events like Stommish, Coast Salish Day and the Canoe Journey. This weekend we went to the annual Coast Salish Day. With 73 degree weather, it was a beautiful day to be out at the park celebrating and honoring a great culture. The view from Bellingham Bay at Boulevard Park was gorgeous!{Coast Salish Day events feature Native American … [Read more...]

Parenting is Hard When She’s Snubbed By The Big Kids

June 25, 2011 By LaVonne

My Princess is only 3 years old. She is stubborn, bossy and independent. We often catch her bossing around 10 year old kids when we are traveling on the road. It always amazes us. She likes big kids. They have more patience and seem to "give in" to her more than children her own age. So some of her closest friends are children who are 5 and older. One day recently, while we were out, they would not let her play with them. They kept running away from her. She was persistent … [Read more...]

Toddler Gardening

June 13, 2011 By LaVonne

The Princess and I planted flowers in our pots this last week. It is always nice to have some flowers in the front of the house. What fun she had! It took us an hour, since I let her fill the pots with dirt. A slow process but we got some sunshine. Summertime is such a great time of year for toddler gardening! … [Read more...]

Bible Marking

May 26, 2011 By LaVonne

When you don't hear a toddler for a certain length of time, you realize that they may just be doing something they are not supposed to.How many of you know what I am talking about? At church the other day, I didn't hear my Princess. So daddy decided to check on her. We were at church alone, checking our email. Sure enough, the Princess was sitting on the floor with a Bible (not her own) and a red pen. When daddy looked at what she was doing, he said, "No Bella! You are not supposed to write your … [Read more...]

Toddler Tennis Shoes

May 23, 2011 By LaVonne

I don’t think I have mentioned that we call our Princess’ tennis shoes Baby Jaguars. She loves Go, Diego, Go from Nickelodeon. Baby Jaguar is his “sidekick”. We started calling her tennis shoes Baby Jaguars before she turned two, I am sure. She calls them that too, of course. I am not sure she has ever said the term “tennis shoes”. If she is wearing her church shoes, tearing around the church halls {as she often is}, we say, “Be careful, you are not wearing your baby jaguars and you might … [Read more...]

Dancing Toddler

May 11, 2011 By LaVonne

Well the last two days my Princess has been in a mood. She cut her foot on the bathroom stool and got her first canker sore. After a night of tossing and turning, she woke up and wanted to watch some Treehouse cartoons. {You know the ones that drive me crazy?} So I let her. While cleaning up the bathroom and making the bed, she ran in. In such a hurry, she threw open her dresser drawers and said quite impatiently, “I need my skirt!” Of course I asked why she needed her skirt. She gave me that … [Read more...]
