Understanding Death

May 5, 2011 By LaVonne

Though, my Princess recently attended a funeral, she still is fascinated {of course} with the casket and body of a dead loved one. Right when we arrived at the mortuary for a special family viewing on Monday, she wanted to see our Aunt in the casket. She said, Why won't she open her eyes, mommy? I explained to her, again, what it means to die. Then I also explained to her that we will see our Aunt again in Heaven. She loves that. {Me too!} She then said, Can you tell me a story about … [Read more...]

Dealing With Death

May 1, 2011 By LaVonne

sourceMy aunt died. We went to visit her last September because she was not doing well.Though, we all expected it to happen, it was still a hurtful shock. So the Princess and I are leaving Canada to head down to Southern California for the funeral. Pray for us all. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these … [Read more...]

Life on a Reservation

April 26, 2011 By LaVonne

On our reservation we have a very large totem pole on the main road, and we are currently building a cedar hat park down by the beach. The cedar hat pavilion is being built just in time for our tribe to host the Canoe Journey.I am blessed to live in such beauty and rich culture.  {Do you know how excited my Princess is to pick out her own clothes and button her sweaters? Very excited!}   "Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. … [Read more...]

Tulip Festival Fun

April 25, 2011 By LaVonne

I am so glad to be home this week, not only because it is Easter weekend, but because we are having our annual Skagit County Tulip Festival. This time of year, though the traffic around our county is horrendous, {can't anyone go the speed limit at least?} -- the photos of the tulip fields are beautiful.Thank the Lord, we had a beautiful sunny day while I was home. It hit 67 degrees here people! We have been averaging 10 degrees cooler than normal this Spring here in Northwestern Washington, so to … [Read more...]

Happy Easter!

April 23, 2011 By LaVonne

sourceI hope that you all have a blessed and happy Easter! As surely as we died with Christ, we believe we will also live with him. We know that death no longer has any power over Christ. He died and was raised to life, never again to die. When Christ died, he died for sin once and for all. But now he is alive, and he lives only for God. In the same way, you must think of yourselves as dead to the power of sin. But Christ Jesus has given life to you, and you live for God.Romans 6: 8-11 … [Read more...]

Easter Comes Early

April 20, 2011 By LaVonne

My Princess received an early Easter package from her Grandma this week. We were going to have her wait to open it until Sunday but realized that she would already  have two Easter gifts from us and my parents so she excitedly opened her package on Monday morning. What do you think she did first, after opening every item?Yes, she ate a chocolate egg!Yummy! What is the must have for your child? This year, I will be incorporating spiritual things in my Princess' Easter basket. Plus, we also … [Read more...]

Family Food Tradition: Salmon and Cola

April 13, 2011 By LaVonne

Growing up on an Indian reservation, we had a large extended family within two miles of our home. Family get-togethers and dinners were not only common, at least once per month, but also very loved. So, when my husband and I moved away in 2000 for about 10 years, I felt a deep sense of longing for that life. Imagine my own feelings of happiness when we moved back and bought our first home in 2009. When we lived in California, I had no family but now I again have a large extended family to … [Read more...]
