Our Summer Adventures: Kayaks and Paddle Boards

June 10, 2016 By LaVonne

This post was developed in partnership with Tom’s of Maine. All opinions are my own. We are officially on Summer break. Both kids are out of school and we have a summer of fun planned for the family. I don't know about you, but our summer break goes by so fast because we plan so many great summer adventures. This Spring our family bought kayaks and stand up paddle boards and we've already been using them and loving them. We can't wait to visit all of our local beaches and lakes and … [Read more...]

Ways to Embrace Your True Beauty So Your Daughter Can Too

June 7, 2016 By LaVonne

When you looked in the mirror this morning, who did you see? What did you say? Did your daughter, granddaughter or maybe your niece hear you? Did she hear you say, “I look fat” or “I hate my nose”? As early as age one, children start mimicking their parents by holding toy telephones to their ears, cooking in play kitchens and pushing plastic mowers around the yard. Our daughters might not always look up to us, but they do look to us to see how we act and react in different … [Read more...]

Parents, How Do You Deal with Summer Bedtime?

June 6, 2016 By LaVonne

I participated in this sponsored campaign on behalf of Firefly, REACH, and One2One Network. All opinions stated are my own. This is Nate's last week of preschool. Isabella is already out of school. It's hard to believe summer break is upon us. Here in Western Washington we deal with long days -- the sun goes down after 9 pm. The kids, of course, love it. It's harder on mom and dad though. {My kids are 8 and 4.} During the school year, we have a pretty strict bedtime with both kids. … [Read more...]

6 Simple Tips for a Great Family Video Chat

June 6, 2016 By LaVonne

In today’s world, it’s not uncommon to have family all over the globe. Not everyone gets the chance to hop on a plane and travel across the continent – or past entire oceans – to meet and greet the folks more than once or twice a year. For all other times, modern technology has provided us with an amazing piece of technology that’s often used, and just as often misused: video conferencing. Most people are familiar with free “voice over IP” software, or programs that allow you to talk to … [Read more...]

31 Ways to Celebrate Family Month

May 31, 2016 By LaVonne

There’s a five week span between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day referred to as Family Month.  Started back in 1882, this month places emphasis on moms and dads across the country spending more time with their children. I don't know about you but having a time set aside to truly focus on family is great. It gives us the perfect excuse to plan family outings and family nights. In a busy world, family time can get pushed to the background of life and forgotten. But we all need that intentional time … [Read more...]

Father’s Day Printable Interviews

May 22, 2016 By LaVonne

Isabella loves filling out questionnaires for her dad for Father's Day. This simple printable can easily be given a long with a small gift from the children. Her dad loves getting them too. He saves them in his "Bella" folder in the file cabinet. This Father's Day printable is perfect for our daughter to give daddy. The most important thing in the world is family and love. - John Wooden   I think my mom put it best. She said, 'Little girls soften their daddy's hearts.' - Paul … [Read more...]

Mother Daughter Day at the Beach

May 19, 2016 By LaVonne

This is a sponsored post with Northside. My love of this brand and the PNW is all my own. This past month my daughter and I have visited Rosario Beach twice. The first visit was a Mother's Day celebration where she read a poem she wrote, gave me a handmade candle, we ate lunch with other students and moms, and we played on the beach. It was a lovely mother daughter day at the beach; truly an event we look forward to every year. The second visit to Rosario Beach was this past weekend for … [Read more...]
