Baby Dedication – What is it?

June 10, 2015 By LaVonne

In our church we don't baptize babies, but we do have baby dedications. Have you heard of a baby dedication before? If not, I thought I'd share a bit about it. Baby Dedication Dedication of children to God was practiced in biblical times and is practiced today in many churches. You can find examples in the Bible of baby dedication: Hannah dedicated Samuel, to God and to the service of His house (1 Sam 1:27, 28) Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple in "Jerusalem to present Him … [Read more...]

When Doing Good Goes Wrong

May 28, 2015 By LaVonne

I don't know about you, but I am always wanting to do something "great" for Christ. You know, something so amazing and life changing - the kind of thing that will leave a lasting legacy. I often forget that I can change the world for Christ in small ways: kindness towards neighbors, sharing great Christian content on this blog, and volunteering in the community. I can also have a big impact on my largest mission field at this time: my own family. But still, I find myself losing myself in … [Read more...]

Three Ways to Combat Sibling Rivalry

May 17, 2015 By LaVonne

We've had both kids at home for 12 days. It was Spring Break. I forgot how hard it can be with two kids in the home all day. Things go well with two kids 4.5 years apart, until they don't. Then, before you know it, it's "You're so annoying" and "You're making me mad" continually coming from their not so innocent mouths. And I realize, with a lot of mommy guilt, that they've heard me say similar things to them as well this past week. They fight EVERY SINGLE DAY. If only they got … [Read more...]

All About Pentecost

May 16, 2015 By LaVonne

What is Pentecost? One of the major feasts in the Jewish calendar, Pentecost was celebrated fifty days after the Passover. It was a way for the Jews to thank God for their crops. After the resurrection of Jesus, this feast would be celebrated much differently for Christians. In the book of Acts chapter 2 we find Peter, one of Jesus' disciples, in Jerusalem. He and other early church members were in Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one … [Read more...]

Are You a Happy Christian?

April 2, 2015 By LaVonne

Are You a Happy Christian?

Would you like to be a happy or happier Christian? I sure would. Which is why I am loving this new book from David Murray, The Happy Christian. As Christians you'd think we'd be the happiest people on earth, right? This Easter season, Jesus and His death on the cross is a strong visual reminder that even in the worst times, great and amazing things can happen in lives. Murray, right in the introduction, reminds us of many things we should be quite happy about. Here are five things right from … [Read more...]
