October 14, 2016 By LaVonne

Any fall travel plans? We are, of course, trying to find a last minute location for Thanksgiving. It's been a busy summer and fall so far, and we haven't planned well. But, we love going away for a multi-generational trip over Thanksgiving, so I'll keep you updated. We're always looking for great travel games for the kids. We recently became familiar with a great company, SmartGames, and when I saw that they offered travel games, I knew I wanted to check them out. Fit the ice around the … [Read more...]

Find It Eww Gross: A Portable Treasure Hunt Game

April 25, 2016 By LaVonne

Each week, I bring a large bag to church. I call it my kids' busy bag. I have one bin in the house full of things that they can bring to church and I rotate things in the bag so they have different things each week. It's common to find toy cars, simple puzzles, activity books, and crafts. I found a new treasure hunt game to add to our busy bag last week and the kids love it: Find It Eww Gross! About Eww Gross! Part game, part activity, this “contained adventure” is a portable treasure … [Read more...]

2014 Brilliance Award Toy Winners

How do you go through thousands of toys on the shelf at Brilliant Sky Toys & Books and pick the top ten? It might be a fun task but quite time consuming. I am glad I can benefit from all this hard work. The top toys have been narrowed down to ten and they've won the 2014 Brilliance Award. These toys winners are all {not surprisingly} low-tech. You will find a creative and awesome variety of toys that include dolls, puppets, crafts, and building sets - timeless classic toys that even our … [Read more...]

1st Grade Homeschool: Learning Games

This last school year we completed Homeschool Kindergarten and had a great time. I found out that my daughter would much rather learn through games than by lecture and worksheets. That shouldn't come as a big surprise to any parent. So this school year I am incorporating more games in our learning. What is your child's learning style? I started this school year pretty organized and my week one lesson plan was done about two weeks in advance. I set up our new curriculum and learning games … [Read more...]

10 Unique Pool Games for Kids

Washingtonians take advantage of summer. In my opinion, it is the best time of year here. It is so beautiful and green in Western Washington and when the sky is blue and the sun is shining - there is no better place on earth. My family is blessed to live in a community that has a pool. If it hits 70 degrees (which is does most of the summer), we are at our community pool. There are also many other children in our small community so there is sure to be a playmate for my Princess on any given … [Read more...]

4 Educational Ways to Fight Backseat Boredom

The summer road trip is a tradition for many families, allowing you to see the sights and bond with one another along the way. Summer road trips bring back great memories for me. I love how I am also creating new ones with my own kiddos! I'm not going to lie though, long hours in the car can be hard to deal with when you have young children. My two start to feel restless after even a few minutes. Fight backseat boredom and learn something at the same time with these fun and educational car … [Read more...]

Chuck E Cheese Family Fun in Baton Rouge

February 19, 2014 By LaVonne

family fun

While in Baton Rouge we visited the local Chuck E. Cheese. With the yucky Polar Vortex weather we were experiencing, even as far south as Baton Rouge, indoor family fun was a must. Chuck E Cheese provided such a great family fun experience for us. My daughter kept seeing the commercials on the hotel television for the RIP IT. SIP IT. WIN IT contest and could not wait to visit and try to win a Disney Cruise. We didn't win but we did get 40 more tickets to spend on prizes at the local … [Read more...]
