Always Say I Love You – R.I.P. Uncle

April 18, 2014 By LaVonne

My Uncles Gift

My family had a difficult week last week. We unexpectedly lost my favorite uncle to a massive stroke. He was only 57. In the Native American culture a funeral is much different than in the Caucasian culture. We had a lot to do last week - planning the funeral, shopping for giveaway items that are held after the funeral, buying burial clothing for my Uncle, eating a nightly meal with the rest of the reservation for three nights, holding a small ceremony at the funeral home for only close family, … [Read more...]

Dealing With Death

May 1, 2011 By LaVonne

sourceMy aunt died. We went to visit her last September because she was not doing well.Though, we all expected it to happen, it was still a hurtful shock. So the Princess and I are leaving Canada to head down to Southern California for the funeral. Pray for us all. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these … [Read more...]

A Story of Love

January 6, 2011 By LaVonne

sourceWe had long days since Saturday. Yesterday, I was able to breath, relax and reflect. As I thought about our family friend, dying - choosing to die, I realized that her story was really a story of love. The Love of a mother who went uncomplaining to unnumerable doctors visits. The Love of a father who readily gave up a kidney. The Love of sisters and family, who instead of anger, gave their support. The Love of a girl, who bravely choose to say "no more", and spend her last days with those she … [Read more...]

Death in the Family

January 2, 2011 By LaVonne

sourceMy parents god-daughter died. She was only 22.Back in May the doctors gave her 2 weeks to live, and I asked for you all to pray for her.Well, after much more time than the doctors thought possible, she died. On New Year's Eve only about 20 minutes before midnight. She was happy and at peace those last days. Her friends and family were able to spend time with her and say goodbye. Her last Facebook entry simply said, "So happy."Though everyone is sad, they expected it to happen. We are all … [Read more...]

Funeral Moment

September 3, 2010 By LaVonne

This week we had a funeral to attend for a family friend. He was an older man who had been sick for quite some time. A WWII vet (he was at Normandy and Battle of the Bulge), tribal leader, grandfather, and genuinely kind man. The funeral was truly a celebration of his great life. So when my Princess asked to pay her respects (she didn’t say that, she actually said, “I want to see the man who died.”) and view his body, I was hesitant. But I don’t want her to be afraid of something natural like … [Read more...]

Difficult Week

May 17, 2010 By LaVonne

This last week has been a difficult week. Not only did I learn my friend died, but I also found out our family friend has chosen to quit taking her medicine and dialysis. She is only 22 years old and has had kidney problems her entire life. Her father gave her one of his kidneys when she was a small child. They lived next door to us. My parents are her godparents in fact. One year ago, she decided she was tired of her life, being unhealthy, having constant medicine and dialysis. She didn't want … [Read more...]
