Canoe Journey 2016: Paddle to Nisqually

August 16, 2016 By LaVonne

A special thank you to Adams Natural for supporting our PNW outdoor journeys this summer. This year our canoe family traveled to Nisqually for the 2016 annual canoe journey. We love our experience with the Canoe Journey. It brings together natives and non-natives with a common goal of providing a drug and alcohol free event. Plus, it offers pullers a chance to take a personal journey towards healing and recovery of culture, traditional knowledge and spirituality. Paddle to Nisqually … [Read more...]

Can you use custom apparel?

November 10, 2014 By LaVonne

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for MyLocker. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation. Every summer thousands of Native Americans participate in a Canoe Journey on the West Coast. My dad has a 14-man canoe, the Salmon Dancer, that participates as well. It is amazing to be a part of something this big and to celebrate our Native American culture with so many others. Last year … [Read more...]

Keeping Your Teeth Clean While Camping with Sonicare Powerup

canoe camping

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client. So from Tuesday July 23rd through Wednesday July 31st, I was camping on our annual Canoe Journey. Camping for an entire week with two young kids is actually not very easy. It is a lot of work. I realized that being home, having a staycation, would have been much easier with young children. Things like eating … [Read more...]

Canoe Journey 2012

July 31, 2012 By LaVonne

Each summer Native Americans along the Pacific coast get together to celebrate culture and family in the annual Canoe Journey. This  year we brought our family canoe down to Squaxin Island near the capitol, Olympia. Hard work, sweat, family closeness, and sharing culture with other Native Americans from other tribes - the Canoe Journey is quite the experience!   Ten days of camping with two children? Not so easy... … [Read more...]

Protocol During The Canoe Journey

August 4, 2011 By LaVonne

Final recap collage photos of the last week of our 2011 Loving, Caring and Sharing Canoe Journey. What fun we had watching and participating in all the canoe families' songs, dances, and stories. The food was phenomenal, the vendors great, and the company superb! Here is a YouTube video from the landing {I pulled canoe that day and it rained so hard I was drenched when we landed.} The governor of our state was also on our family canoe {pulling right in front of me}. What a great Canoe … [Read more...]

How To Find Lost Items: Canoe Journey Style

August 4, 2011 By LaVonne

How do you find lost items? Dance for it. That is what happens on the Canoe Journey. If you have lost something, and you want it back, you have to dance for it. In front of every one! {Hundreds of people} My Princess loved watching this {who am I kidding, everyone loved watching people have to dance}. So she started a new game with us. She pretended to "lose" her hat and she had to dance to get it back. It was very cute! … [Read more...]

Canoe Journey: Our Tribe is Hosting this Year!

July 25, 2011 By LaVonne

Last year we enjoyed the annual Canoe Journey; though camping for over a week with a toddler was a little crazy. This year is a much shorter canoe pull for our family canoe - the Salmon Dancer. 4 days of travelling on the Salish Sea is doable. {Well, I was not paddling just driving A LOT.} Each night we came home, since we were close enough. So no camping for us this year. {Which is fine with me.} Our tribe is hosting this year, so we are gearing up for a crazy busy week. Road … [Read more...]
