We made a difficult decision this past month. One we tried not to make lightly. Our Princess, who I have homeschooled since Preschool started school today at our local private Christian school. We have decided to quit homeschooling. She's nervous. I'm nervous. I am having a hard time leaving my 7 year old with strangers for 6 hours and 40 minutes 5 days a week. How did you all do it? You want to know why we decided to send her to school? My husband got a promotion in October. He is … [Read more...]
Reading to Her Brother (melts my heart)
My Princess is reading a lot better now that were a few months into first grade. She still doesn't love it, but she is doing pretty good with it. Unless you make her read, she will always ask you to read for her. I do my best to make her try to read all the signs and directions and titles we come across now. She fights it still. But every now and then, I catch my Princess next to her little brother reading to him. He LOVES books and always wants to be read to. I am a big fan of books. I … [Read more...]
We’re Using Technology to Learn to Read
I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Rosetta Stone. I received a product and a promotional item to thank me for participating. We are making our way slowly through our first grade homeschool curriculum. Most days it is a struggle. Homeschooling is not easy. She complains a lot, does really well in her lessons, and really has no desire to attend our local private Christian school. I am leaning towards sending her. My husband and I are still … [Read more...]
We Had Fun Visiting Swanson’s Family Farm!
My Princess' soccer coach invited us to attend her family farm for the 1st grade public school field trip. She knows we homeschool and she wanted Bella to have the chance to attend, pick a pumpkin, pick some apples, make cider, play in a haystack maze, and eat treats. We were so thankful. Bella loved it! And yes, Nathanael did too. I appreciated that the family picked all the pumpkins before we came out. We have had some rain, a lot of rain actually here in Western Washington, so I wasn't … [Read more...]
Homeschool Co-op: Her First Friday
Two weeks ago my Princess started Friday School at our Homeschool Co-op. What is a homeschool co-op you ask? Each Friday for eight weeks this fall we get together with 100+ families and learn together. Parents are the teachers, class helpers, the set up and clean up crew. The kids get to take the classes - three 1-hour classes each Friday morning after we have chapel together. We will also be having holiday parties and field trips together. My Princes is taking Kids Crafts, Cupcake … [Read more...]
Easy DIY Sock Puppets
This semester in 1st grade homeschool we are having health class twice a week. We are using (and loving) Horizon Health for 1st grade. Though it is optional for this curriculum, this health class utilizes sock puppets as a teaching aide. I've decided that my Princess and I would make our own sock puppets to interact with during health class. It is a fun way to teach and learn and she is beyond excited about it. We got some inspiration for our sock puppets on Pinterest. We then compiled … [Read more...]
You Know You’re a Soccer Mom When…
This fall my daughter is playing soccer for the first time. She loves it. I am happy because as a homeschooler, she can get out and play with the town's children in a city league. Plus, she's getting exercise, which is always good. So yes, I am now officially a soccer mom. You know you're a soccer mom when: You don't spare any expense on hot pink socks. You decide your kid's black athletic shorts are stylish for any day of the week. You think your kid is the best player on the … [Read more...]
