When Your Husband Gets a New Job (and he’s so much busier)

July 26, 2014 By LaVonne

When Your Husband Gets a New Job (and he's so much busier)

You know when you have two Bible studies to finish, three books started, an overflowing Netflix queue, ten days left of homeschool kindergarten, every intention of getting some kind of extra curricular activity scheduled for your child, and some very essential housecleaning to be done? {Don't even bring up blogging, which has now become a part time job.} Oh and those Amazon reviews that were due a month ago... Yep, that's what life is looking like right now. Can you relate? In June, I … [Read more...]

My Kid is in Speech Therapy (and that’s ok)

July 24, 2014 By LaVonne

My Combination for Homeschool Success #Combos4Success

My daughter has had speech delays since she was a toddler. She talked a bit later than I expected her to and then some of her sounds weren't correct. I didn't worry. Most toddlers have difficulty saying certain letter sounds and blend sounds. When she was preschool age she was making progress on her own and was mastering some of the letter sounds and blend sounds that she previously couldn't say. When we started Homeschool Kindergarten this year and officially began learning the blends in … [Read more...]

Ways to Protect Your Family: Outside the Home

Ways to Protect Your Family: Outside the Home

There are some obvious things we think of when it comes to securing our families. Make sure all the doors have deadbolts. Install double paned, double locking windows. Make sure every one in the house has access to a panic button. If you can (and depending on where you live you should), have a security system installed and pay the $30 per month monitoring fee. These are the basics. We shouldn’t need to have to talk about these things anymore. It's not difficult to find home security systems … [Read more...]

Backyard Camping

July 21, 2014 By LaVonne

One thing my daughter loves about the summer in Washington is the chance to go backyard camping. I know, vacations are awesome and trips to the local Six Flags water park are beyond fun. But the simple family activities like a movie night, s'mores over a fire, game night and backyard camping honestly make her summer great. Those great mellow family times are so exciting for us all. I know she will cherish them as she gets older. {I can remember when I camped out back with my own dad when I was … [Read more...]

Supplementing Math This Summer

My Princess and I still have 17 days left of Kindergarten homeschool. We will get it done this summer, I swear! But, this week we  are on vacation in San Diego. What do you do to keep the summer slide from occurring with your children? About Math World 10monkeys.com Math World is an entertaining math learning … [Read more...]

10 Reasons I Love the Chevrolet Suburban

10 Reasons I Love the Chevrolet Suburban #SuburbanMom

I had a busy week last week! Last Sunday, we got back home after spending over a week in the 5th wheel RV for hubby's work. We had to unload the RV, wash clothes, clean up the RV, and then get it ready for storage. We also had warm weather so the kids wanted to go to the community pool. My Princess and I still have 20 days left of Homeschool Kindergarten (yes, we are going year round!) On top of that, we had to get ready for an awesome 4th of July celebration. And lastly? We needed to get ready … [Read more...]

Freedom: I’ve Got My Bedroom Back!

Freedom: I've Got My Bedroom Back!

I have stuck to my guns. My Little Man has slept in his own bed at the start of each night since he turned two. The latest he's slept in his own room was 4:00 am. Then I go in and lay next to him or let him come into bed with me. To be honest, it hasn't been easy. My husband was gone for a week right after we made the transition and it would have just been easier to have him in my bed with me. But I knew it would only have made it more difficult to keep him in his own bed.   He … [Read more...]
