You know when you have two Bible studies to finish, three books started, an overflowing Netflix queue, ten days left of homeschool kindergarten, every intention of getting some kind of extra curricular activity scheduled for your child, and some very essential housecleaning to be done? {Don’t even bring up blogging, which has now become a part time job.} Oh and those Amazon reviews that were due a month ago…
Yep, that’s what life is looking like right now.
Can you relate?
In June, I made the conscious decision to slow down and enjoy Summer. Get less busy. But no matter what my intentions are I seem to stay busy and tired and somewhat grumpy.
Why won’t my two year old quit whining and screaming all the time?
Why does it seem like my daughter is 6 going on 13? And why can’t she just instantly obey?
And, yes my husband just got a new job. An interim ministry position for four months in addition to his actual job. He calls it “a great opportunity to shine“.
I’m not sure what to call it yet.
Oh, which reminds me – my son is saying “Oh, d*mmit” quite frequently. I am just waiting for him to say it at church… ( I won’t tell you where he learned that one from!)
I am trying this week to just slow down. Breathe. Pause for a moment and live life.
One very bright side of the week – Staples sent this amazing organization system for me to try out. It is the M by Staplesโข Arc System. I had every intention of using it for homeschool planning. You see, after I finish those 10 last days of kindergarten, I need to actually plan what the heck I’m doing for 1st grade!
But, my very awesome, very busy husband snaked this beauty right from under my nose! In fact, he has it at the RV this weekend where he is working. While I’m at home with two insanity driving children. Pray for me.
Honestly, he had a messy note taking system before he started using the arc system from Staples. It was quite pitiful. He needed it.
And yes, I do need to get my own very fancy Staples organizer for 1st grade homeschool planning!
Check out Staples (because they’re quite awesome too):

Can you use some organization in life?
Daisy says
My husband has switched jobs a few times. It’s always crazy in the beginning when he is super busy, but then we adjust and things get better.
LaVonne says
I am waiting for that adjustment, Daisy ๐
Dee @ Cocktails with Mom says
When my husband switched jobs I found we went through a small adjustment phase mainly due to his change in hours. Once in routine, things went much smoother.
LaVonne says
That’s what I am hoping for Dee. Thanks! ๐
Rebecca Swenor says
First have to say that I had to laugh when I heard what your son was saying. lol They pick up on it fast. It is nice to just slow down and enjoy what you have in life and the things around you. I so need to get organized. Thanks for sharing.
LaVonne says
Thanks Rebecca! I am glad someone is laughing ๐ I am cringing and trying my best to divert his attention, not make a big deal of the word, and immediately saying, “Oh man!” instead. We’ll see if it works…
Nicole says
Wow. This post couldn’t have happened at a better time. I’m about to go through this exact lifestyle change!
LaVonne says
Good luck on the changes, Nicole! I hope yours goes more smoothly ๐
Sarah L says
I wish you well on your journey to get organized, slow down and not murder your children.
LaVonne says
Yes, Sarah. Thank you. I need well wishes! ๐ They survived the weekend so I think they are good.
valmg @ Mom Knows It All says
On the oh dammit situation. I feel your pain. Once my husband and I went to the bank, and had my little brother with me. He said a bad word and the bank lady was horrified and asked my brother where he learned such a thing, at which point my brother turned and pointed at my hubby. So embarrassing.
LaVonne says
That would be so embarrassing! I am praying it doesn’t happen in public. And if it does, that I can deflect really well.
LyndaS says
I have the Arc! Both the large and small size. I like that I can easily take the pages out and put them back in.
LaVonne says
Yes, Lynda. I love that feature too! This is so awesome. I might need to get the smaller size that way I can lug it around. I have a smart phone but there is something I love about having a planner opened right in front of me.
Jen - Life With Levi says
We’re about to go through an adjustment period with our regular routine and I’m totally dreading it. I have an ARC system though, so I better dig it out and get to work planning!
LaVonne says
Jen, I hope your transition goes smoothly. Any changes in the family dynamic are stressful. But, I need to get my own smaller ARC to stay organized through ours!
Emily says
My husband got a new job too and he seems extra busy. What great reminders!
Crystal says
I could definitely use some more organization!
June S. says
My husband has been at the same job now for thirteen years now, he likes it and his boss is really nice too. It’s hard work at times though, last night he was complaining of a very stiff neck. So I dug out the neck massager and the heating pad too. Oh, LaVonne I always get the biggest kick out of reading things on your blog. Don’t worry too much about your son saying โOh, d*mmitโ, just explain to him that it is not a nice word and please do not say it again. My daughter-in-law has told my son a few times that if my grandson starts ever saying that word, because his Dad says it all the time! She is going to conk him one on the head. Their brains are just like little sponges, and they never forget anything it sure seems.
LaVonne says
Thanks June. If my son persists in saying it I am going to have to try a different method than just ignoring and distracting. I will have to explain that it is not a nice word and not to say it again. Since he is only 26 months, he doesn’t always understand that I try to explain so we’ll see…
