Canoe Journey 2012

Each summer Native Americans along the Pacific coast get together to celebrate culture and family in the annual Canoe Journey. This  year we brought our family canoe down to Squaxin Island near the capitol, Olympia. Hard work, sweat, family closeness, and sharing culture with other Native Americans from other tribes – the Canoe Journey is quite the experience!

Ten days of camping with two children? Not so easy…

Wow just look at all the canoes. I’ve never been to or even heard of a Native American celebration such as this. Looks like an amazing thing to experience 🙂

Happy WW and thanks for linking up!

That looks like a blast. We used to live in the Seattle area and I never knew this went on.

It has really grown in recent years. I think this is the 14th year. In 1998 when it first began there were only like 7 canoes. Now there are 100. Our tribe hosted it last year and we had thousands of people on our little reservation. It was pretty awesome.
