Rio: A Review of Christian Themes

July 16, 2011 By LaVonne

Rio will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on August 2. Have you seen this movie yet? I have not, but I cannot wait. I don't know what changes, but once you have a child, kids movies just seem to get better. Plus, you make better choices on what gets played in your home. This is why I am excited to get this opportunity. Fox Home Entertainment has asked me to review this movie, and also to share with you about the Christian themes that can be found in it. I am excited to work with Fox Home … [Read more...]

40 Days of Prayer

40 Days of Prayer

I started a new book this week, 40 Days: Prayers and Devotions. In addition to learning more about prayer, the Holy Spirit and journaling, I am also praying for 5 specific people for each day. I had a hard time picking 5 people. I have 7 in mind, but I know there are more. We all know people in our lives that do not know Christ or who have fallen away from Him. It is heart breaking. I don't know about all of you but witnessing to those closest to me always seems to be the most difficult. A … [Read more...]

Go Diego Go

August 21, 2010 By LaVonne

My Princess is obsessed with Nickelodeon's Go Diego Go. She prefers it to Dora the Explorer. I think it is because she LOVES Baby Jaguar. Imagine my surprise when during dinner this week she blurted out, "Al rescate amigos" - Which translates "to rescue my friends"; Diego is always rescuing his animal friends.. I laughed so hard. When I tried to tell her what it meant, she did not believe me. Because I laughed so hard, she decided to start repeatedly saying it all night. When her daddy got home … [Read more...]

Things I Love Thursday: Charlotte’s Web

February 25, 2010 By LaVonne

Today, I will post about Things Isabella Loves.Put one more obsession down for my Princess: Charlotte's Web. She. Loves. It. I checked this movie (a recent one with Dakota Fanning) out at the local library (which, I know, I have mentioned many times: I LOVE THE LIBRARY). I had never seen or read Charlotte's Web but after the last two weeks, I have made up for it. The Princess wants to watch it multiple times per day. I have now seen it at least 10 times. And yes, the first time, (spoiler alert … [Read more...]

Cheap Entertainment and Even A Bit of Exercise

January 20, 2010 By LaVonne

On Monday night we decided to do something we have never done before. I am not sure why we have not done it before. It was always only less than 15 miles away. The cost has always been a resonable $3 for adults and the Princesss would be free. We just never got around to doing it.We went to the public pool! And we had loads of fun. The Fidalgo Pool is a large pool, with many pool toys including floating basket ball hoops, boards, balls, rings, climbing wall, diving board, and even an enclosed … [Read more...]

Things She Loves Thursday – Toy Story

September 10, 2009 By LaVonne

This week the Princess has formed an attachment to Toy Story 1 and 2. My father-in-law sent us a box of VHS children's movies and this week my husband, Tyler, put in Toy Story (a favorite of both of ours) and she LOVED it! Which surprised us. She normally does not have more than 10 minutes attention span for cartoons. But not this time. Now she wants to watch it all the time. I actually have to limit it to once per day (in a couple intervals). Now I have the fabulous idea of buying it on DVD … [Read more...]

WFMW: Library or Netflix?

September 9, 2009 By LaVonne

So we belong to Netflix. I have been so happy with them and my queue is full of DVDs I can't wait to watch. Last week, I decided to lighten my queue and search my local Library database. Sure enough 10 of the movies on my queue I searched for were available. The cool thing is I can search the county system (at least 10 libraries) and have them sent to my local library (only .25 mile away). I was able to get the entire series of Christy (which I watched 2 episodes while the Princess napped), and … [Read more...]
