Depression in Men

August 18, 2015 By LaVonne

Men and mental health issues such as stress and depression aren’t often talked about, but it is a very real occurrence. While women tend to outwardly express their feelings more, men are more logical and tend to keep things in. Men may suffer from depression but be reserved in expressing their feelings. It may take longer to catch on. As parents, emotional highs and lows come with the territory. In the process of making sure that your children are adequately cared for you can experience … [Read more...]

Boys Fall Fashion (My Little Man is Going to Preschool!)

August 18, 2015 By LaVonne

Today we turned our paperwork in for preschool. Yes, you heard that right - my Little Man is going to Preschool. It will be four days a week (Monday - Thursday) and three hours per day. Honestly, I think the whole family could use this new change. It will be good for us all. I homeschooled my daughter for two years of preschool and it went so well. She loved it. My Little Man does not have the same personality as she did. Plus, he also has two boy cousins who will also be enrolled in the same … [Read more...]

How Mothers and Daughters Can Win the Battle of Weight and Self Esteem

August 17, 2015 By LaVonne

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? For most of us, it’s not the accomplished woman you’ve become, but the fat girl you used to be. Sadly, we pass on our childhood struggles with weight and body image to our own daughters keeping them—and us—trapped and unable to engage confidently in school, at work and with loved ones. Here are seven ways to break that cycle. For good. There’s no better role model for your daughter than you. Are you constantly denigrating your body (or … [Read more...]

How to Give Kids the Right Money Mindset

August 16, 2015 By LaVonne

There’s more to life than money, right? Of course.  And you want your kids to understand this, just as you want to them to be smart about money and learn to budget and spend wisely. But wouldn’t you also like to help give them a chance to have an abundant financial life in the future, one where they won’t find themselves feeling stuck or frustrated or lacking? Well, even if you don’t have a penny to pass on to them, you can.  Because you do have the power to pass on a set of core … [Read more...]

Cheesy Potato Bites {Perfect for Game Day!}

August 14, 2015 By LaVonne

Our family is gearing up for our first pre-season game this weekend. We are all quite excited. Football and fun snack foods go hand in hand - and we've been planning our first pre-game party for a few weeks. I tried out a new recipe and it was a hit! Cheesy potato bites truly are the perfect game day food. Cheesy Potato Bites I actually saw a similar recipe on Facebook about two weeks ago. I thought they looked tasty but didn't click on the recipe and then couldn't find it when I was looking … [Read more...]

Summer Snacks for the Whole Family

August 13, 2015 By LaVonne

Each summer our reservation qualifies for an outdoor activity grant. So all tribal members who exercise, including the children, get $10 each week in the form of a gift certificate to our local farm stand. Cha Ching! We've been getting $30 each week for eight weeks to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Isn't that awesome?  Thankfully, our favorite summer snacks include fruit. When the summer began we were getting a lot of strawberries and raspberries. Then, it was blueberries and apricots. Now … [Read more...]

Bible Journaling Ideas

August 12, 2015 By LaVonne

What is Bible Journaling? Bible journaling is a way for a person to worship God through written words and artistic writing and drawing. There is no set way, or correct way for that matter, to journal through the Bible. I use the ESV Bible for Bible Journaling. You do not have to be an artist to do Bible art either. This is is simply a creative outlet to study God's word and meditate upon scriptures. You can find font ideas and clip art online to even trace or copy. In fact, if you just … [Read more...]
