Growing Your Family: What is Egg Donation?

Spread the love

I partnered with Growing Generations and BraVoMark on this post. All opinions are mine.

Many people mistakenly think that because of this blog name, Long Wait For Isabella, I had a hard time getting pregnant. When in fact, I had a very easy time getting pregnant. But, my husband and I purposely waited 9 years after marriage to have our first child, Isabella. Then four years later, I got pregnant the first month I tried to conceive, with my second child – Nathanael.

I know many women who have struggled to get pregnant and grow their families. It isn’t uncommon. In fact, 12% of American women, ages 15-44, have difficulty conceiving or carrying a baby full term. It can feel hopeless, but there are options available for couples who are trying to conceive naturally.

A family member of mine went through IVF (medical procedure whereby an egg is fertilized by sperm in a test tube or elsewhere outside the body), one close friend of mine successfully had a child with egg donation, and one acquaintance of mine was a surrogate for another family.

What is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is the process by which a woman donates eggs to enable another woman to conceive as part of an assisted reproduction treatment. If you are interested in the egg donation process and learning more about fertility, being an egg donor, and IVF, here’s a handy infographic for you to learn more. Visually seeing this journey is much easier, in my opinion.
