5 Practical Tips for Camping with Kids

April 11, 2017 By LaVonne

Spread the love

When you’re camping with kids, there are scads of great tips to make the adventure as enjoyable as it can be. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.

Practice Camping at Home

If you have younger kids, it’s recommended you take the time to practice camping at home. Pitch a real tent in your backyard or a make-shift version in your living room. Lay out the sleeping bags and let the slumbering begin!

Allow Kids to Pack Their Own Gear

Get your kids into the spirit of things, by allowing them to pack their own gear. To be on the safe side, give everyone a list and then double-check each packing job before you leave home. Don’t forget to remind your kids to pack one or two of their favorite toys.

Bring Along Extra Lights

It’s no secret that some kids are afraid of the dark. If this applies to one of your children, there’s a fairly simple solution. Bring along portable lighting or headlamps. These options are affordable and will definitely help your child feel better about a sometimes scary situation.

Stick to Your Usual Routine

This is another tip to consider when your kids belong to the younger set. Yes, you’re on vacation. But, it may be best to stick to your usual routine… at least for the most part. Meal times and bedtimes are probably the two things that are the most crucial.

Be Safety Minded

Supply each of your kids with a whistle and a small flashlight. Putting both on a lanyard is typically the best way to ensure they’ll have easy access to these items, at all times. Instruct your kids to blow the whistle, if they find themselves in trouble.

Keep these tips in mind, as you pack for your trip. If this is your first attempt at family camping, you’re in for a real treat. Some families enjoy it so much, they pack up and go camping whenever they can. Get ready, get set… go camping!
