I’ve been sleeping on the bottom bunk twin mattress in my kids room this past week. My son, who is 3, hasn’t been able to stay in bed all night and I don’t like sleeping next to him. (He’s a bed hog and a heater and I don’t sleep well with him in bed with me.) So, I let him climb in bed with my husband and I zombie walk to his bed at 2:30 am and to get more sleep.
The last two nights, I’ve decided to start the night in his bed and let him sleep with daddy in my comfortable, much more expensive, queen size mattress. (This kid — he has no idea how good he has it!) But, in making this decision, even though I am sleeping on a sub-par twin size mattress, I am getting more sleep. Well, until my 8 year old, above me, my roommate, kicks the sides of the wooden top bunk and wakes me from a dead sleep. I’ll admit, this happens 2-3 times per night.
I’ll ask you all, one more time, when am I going to just get to sleep in my own bed, the entire night through?
But, enough complaining — I am choosing to look on the bright side and be glad. At the beginning of this year, I decided that I need to get to bed at a decent time. My whole life I have been a night owl. I loved staying up late and getting things done late at night. Being a blogger with two kids made late night work a necessity. But, now that both kids are in school, I’ve committed to get the bulk of my blogging work done during school hours. That means, I get to go to bed at a decent time. Plus, my Little Guy not only climbs into my bed at 2:30 am, he also wakes up at six am every morning! I need my sleep!
