Welcome to California Sign Leaving Oregon on Hwy 101
When I was 12 my family took our first actual family vacation. We packed up our minivan and drove, with my uncle’s family in their minivan, from Washington down to California. We went to visit my mom’s sister in San Bernadino and to spend a couple days at Disney Land. You have no idea how exciting it was to be going out of state and to Disney Land for the first time. We’d been to Oregon and British Columbia a couple times since they were both so close but never the long distance of Southern California. You know what? We had a lot of fun together as an extended family.
Travel memories are lifetime memories.
I was 14 the first time I flew on an airplane. I left the airport in Seattle with my friend’s family and we went to Oahu for 17 days! It was the trip of a lifetime because it was my first time on an airplane – back when an airplane ride was exciting. There was food, movies, little pillows and even a blanket. But to spend more than two weeks in paradise with friends? Travel memories are hard to compete with that.
Do you have great travel memories? What about travel dreams? My husband and I have traveled to many states and countries in the last 15 years but I do have a lot more places I’d love to visit. Niagara Falls, Boston, and Kauai are at the top of my travel dream list here in the United States.
Did you know that millions of Americans have never left their home state? In fact, I know many here on our reservation that have not left our state. It might seem strange to you, but it’s true. Not everyone has had the opportunity to explore this great, big country of ours.
