I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central and Kangu. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
I have been blessed to have two healthy babies. My birth stories were positive and my medical care was top-notch with both of my babies. I realize how blessed I am to live here in the US, have great medical insurance, and have healthy kids. I know that many people in our country and around the world do not have this same luxury.
In fact, 800 pregnant moms die each day because they don’t have access to clean facilities and trained professionals. That breaks my heart. It truly is my wish that all pregnant moms could have access to safe and affordable health care, prenatal and postnatal.

The number of babies who die is a much higher number. So at this point you might be wondering what you can do. I’ve sent money to help educate a girl in Colombia, but honestly hadn’t thought about pregnant moms. They need help at the start of life’s journey!

This is just one more reason that I love about technology – you can impact someone’s life so easily by getting involved through crowdfunding. The ability to change the life of pregnant moms and their babies? That is amazing! (Just in case you don’t know what crowdfunding is – you get together with people from all over and fund a project, campaign, or person you believe needs help.)
Kangu, What is It?
In 2013, Kangu was created to combat maternal and neonatal deaths through crowdfunding. A non-profit business, Kangu’s funds that are raised go towards safe services required for pregnant women – or mamas as Kangu calls them. Developed country residents can positively impact the lives of those pregnant mamas living in developing countries. To date, Kangu has funded over 250 safe births from about 1,000 donations!
Anyone can log in to Kangu and donate and save lives! Won’t you donate today?
Connect with Kangu
In fact, you can enter to win a $100 donation in your name. How easy is that? You can impact the life of a pregnant woman by sharing on social media. Enter the Gleam entry form below for your chance to win a donation in your name — there will be five winners! Woot!

The 800 per day number is so saddening. Is that number around the world or just outside of the US?
LaVonne says
Val, I think it is mothers in developing countries, actually.

800 pregnant moms dying each day is so shocking! Just tweeted out this awesome initiative and will do it again!.
LaVonne says
Thanks for your support, Carlee. I appreciate it and I know Kangu does too!
Patty says
This is such a wonderful initiative. We forget here that childbirth can still be a very dangerous thing for both mother and child.
LaVonne says
It is so great. I love how they are helping pregnant moms, Patty. Such a great thing to support!
Kim Croisant says
That is so sad. I love the slogan they chose and I also twitted the message. I hope one day this can all be erased!!
LaVonne says
Thank you for your support, Kim. I think it is so important too. Whatever we can do on social media, right?

My sister works in the field of pediatric aides had traveled a lot of the areas with the high mother mortality rate. She is always saddened when she gets home and will be glad to hear about this.
LaVonne says
I can’t imagine, Mary. I think your sister sounds very awesome. That would be a hard job. Thankful that Kangu makes it easy to help!
Maggie C says
It’s so sad that so many moms die. I hope that number drops as more people learn about it and help.
LaVonne says
I agree, Maggie! There are some things I just take for granted living here in the US.
