We are currently in the Tacoma, Washington area for my husband’s work. We are staying at a nice RV park with our fifth wheel travel trailer and thankfully our paved road out front doesn’t get to much traffic. It is just long enough of a road for the kids to have fun riding their bikes up and down the road. Yes, you heard me right, my 29 month old is riding his bike down the road everyday and loving it. You see, he has an awesome Strider Sport Balance Bike!
I’ll be honest. This is not his first bike. But it is the first bike he can actually ride. All other bikes that we have either been given or bought have all been too heavy for him to ride. He just wasn’t strong enough. Not so with the Strider bike.
We love this Strider Sport Balance Bike – my son jumped on it and is starting to pick up his feet to balance. Soon he’ll be bombing down the street with his feet up. In no time, he’ll graduate to a bike with pedals. That is why the Strider balance bike is so awesome – it will help my Little Man be able to ride a pedal bike before he’s three. Amazing!
We actually used this method with my Princess. But she was five! We simply took off the pedals of her existing bike and she learned to ride it by balancing. My son could never be strong enough to do this with his big boy bike in the garage. This is why I am so glad that Strider sent this bike for us to review.
The Strider Sport Balance Bike has some amazing features:
- Handlebar – this smaller handlebar is great for my Little Man’s small hands.
- Wheels – the lightweight wheels make maneuvering this balance bike so easy for my guy. Plus, the tires don’t need air and will never go flat!
- Seat – our Sport model incuded an XL seat for kids 3+ but my Little Man loves this seat more. I love that the seat is adjustable and will grow with him {plus, you don’t need tools to adjust it!}
- Footrest – though he has not yet used this feature yet, I am sure when he gets even more comfortable on his balance bike he will be resting his feet and coasting along

Our only problem right now is that he always wants to go outside to ride his bike. Always. So in this Fall rainy weather, when I don’t want to stand in the rain, I am stuck making him happy. Plus, sometimes you just have to get out of the 32 foot travel trailer, right?

Do you have a child in your life that could learn to ride a bike? This really is THE WAY to teach them. It would make a perfect gift idea for children.
Disclosure: I was sent the above product for review. No other compensation was given. All opinions are mine.

I have heard of these before, but had never seen one in action. They say that it is better to train w/o training wheels – this proves it!

He is 29 months old and when people see him riding by on this they are excited. He just looks so small. We love this bike!

This would have been perfect for my son when he was smaller, but now I will just have to spoil a niece/nephew!
LaVonne says
It makes such a great gift idea for any child in the family. I wish I had it for my daughter. She had a harder time learning to ride with her standard (much heavier) bike.
Melanie says
We used one on my 3rd son, it’s great for every child, but even better for younger siblings who are always trying to keep up with big bro or big sis!! This truly is the best bike for kids learning to ride. They look like they’re riding a big kids bike too because there aren’t any training wheels. Adults couldn’t believe my little boys was “riding a bike without training wheel already!”

This balance bikes are awesome for little ones to learn how to ride a two wheeler. I improves their coordination also. Thanks for sharing.

I wish I had gotten my kids balance bikes! It is really amazing how well they work. I think it makes it easier for kids to learn how to ride their bikes.
LaVonne says
It really is, Marysa. I just wish I had gotten one for my daughter when they first came out. She didn’t learn to ride her bike until she was five. She was nervous. If we had started her on a balance bike at two, she’d be fine.

This is genius! It’s much less intimidating than a traditional bike. I’m sure the kids feel much safer knowing they can just put their feet down if they feel wobbly while they’re coasting.
LaVonne says
It has been so awesome. He’s been riding it for about two weeks now and he can’t get enough. He feels so confident. This morning he picked his feet up and coasted for a great distance. He was pretty proud of himself. So was I!

I think these bikes are great and perfect for the little ones to learn to ride

(Toddler learning to ride? A balance bike is a must!) This little bike sounds wonderful to learn how to ride a bike for the little ones starting out. It would be very nice to have for when my grandson starts to learn next summer.

That thing is really cute! Wish I’d had one as a kid. I never actually learned how to ride a bike as a kid and now it seems kind of weird to try. I”ll have to remember this if/when I have my own little ones. ๐ Good on ya for getting the little guy started so early!
LaVonne says
What?! You’ve never learned, Chelsea? Well, you must remedy that. Maybe take the pedals off a ladies bike and learn this way. It will work. Believe me! Once you learn you won’t be able to unlearn. I pulled my bike out this year after not ready it in years. I hopped on it like is was the easiest thing in the world. I need to tell the sponsor they need to make Stride Bikes for adults ๐

Learning to balance on a bike is the very first step. This looks like a great device and I can see that your son loves it.
