Laundry Hack to Remove Grass Stains

messy dishes

My kitchen gets messy everyday. I have dirty dishes all the time because we eat at home every day, almost every meal all week long. And yes, I am one of those people who washes many items before they get placed in the dishwasher. The pots and pans get washed by hand too. I trust DAWN dish soap to do the job and clean my dishes well. But did you know that you can use DAWN dish soap for more than just dishes? Yep. It’s true. Here’s one way:

frugal laundry tip

Living with young children, you know that I am dealing with a lot of stains. This laundry hack from removing grass stains and more is so appreciated! I won’t be buying over-expensive products that say they’ll remove stains. I now can use my bottle of DAWN to pre-treat stains. I am excited!

Give your clothes a fighting chance:

  1. Apply Dawn directly to any cotton/polycotton fabric*, covering the entire stained area, and rub it in using your fingers.
Then wash it normally with Tide in your washing machine**.
Do not reapply Dawn to the same spot and wash again.

* For best results, use a little less than two teaspoons (9.5 mL) of Dawn in a top-loading washing machine – be sure not to use too much, and don’t use on delicate fabrics like silk. Spot test with a small drop in a less visible area to make sure the material will not be damaged.
** HE washing machines can be sensitive and cycle times may vary.

Using dawn in your washing machine can void the warranty:/ That might not be a big deal if you have an old machine but if you have a new one, it’s something to keep in mind. Dish washing soap is not meant for a washing machine.

Grease and food stains are def the most difficult stains for me to get out. I love Dawn and will not use anything else! I have used it for years and it’s one product that I will never substitute. We had a flea problem this year and I had heard that you could use Dawn to bathe your fur-babies….and honestly it has been a blessing. It immediately kills any fleas that are on your fur-babies. I mix a few squirts into their doggie shampoo and let them soak in it for about 5-10 minutes. When I rinse them off you can see all the fleas are dead. I’m not sure what is in there that kills them instantly…but whatever it is works. I love having a product that has so many uses!
