I have two kids. Neither of them slept well on their own the first two years of their life. I made the choice to breastfeed them to sleep and they never could just fall asleep on their own.
We co-slept as well so their sleep habits were started from day one. Here’s what our equation looked like Mommy + Breastmilk = Sleep. Some days it was great. Most days it was difficult. But it went by pretty fast and I don’t regret it. I’m crazy like that.
You know how they say, “Moms nap when your baby naps. Sleep when your baby sleeps.” I didn’t listen to that advice very well. In fact, there was so much to get done, I just didn’t have time for sleep.
So moms here is my top ten list of things you should be doing when your baby sleeps.
- Read – this is a great time to get all those books read you’ve had on your TBR pile.
- Bingewatch – you never had a chance to watch that show each week before baby, stream it now. Watch six episodes a day (or more).
- Crafts – sewing, knitting, crochet, scrapbook – the sky is the limit. Get your craft on.
- Organize – I don’t know about you, but I love organizing things much better than cleaning. Game closet, clothing closet, dresser drawers, toiletries – there is so much to organize.
- Cooking and Baking – I barely cooked and baked before kids. I enjoy it. Not the clean-up, but the process of making something new. I love it. Try a new recipe!
- Alone time with Hubby – take advantage of the times now, it only gets more difficult as children get older.
- Shower – that seems like a no-brainer. Showers are difficult with children. Enjoying a shower or bath? Even more difficult. Soak in some bubbles with a good book.
- Exercise – Stay healthy. I need to incorporate this even more and my kids are older. It gets more difficult for some reason…
- Journal – I love writing down the weekly memories of my babies growing up. Take time to reflect on what has happened and write it all down.
- Connect – being a new mom can be lonely. Easily stay up to date with your friends and family on social media. Better yet, call them!
Seasoned moms, do you have any advice to add?

As many of you know, my Little Man who turned two this summer has just started sleeping in his own bed. I am still having a difficult time adjusting. I still check on him every night to make sure he’s safe. Now that I have my own Levana monitor, I don’t have to get out of bed! A clear signal, volume adjustment, 48 hour battery life and the peep mode – are all reasons I LOVE this monitor. {If your baby makes a peep, the monitor automatically kicks on!}
