Keeping Kids Active and Healthy

Keeping Kids Active and Healthy

Have you noticed that health and lifestyle is often passed down from one generation to the next? Living on a Native American reservation for most of my life, I have witnessed first hand how health and lifestyle is passed down. How we parenting our children really does affect their adult life and how they will raise their own children. What an awesome responsibility we have as a parents! I have noticed in my own life that I get so busy that I often ignore my own health. That is not the example I want to pass on to my children. Our own personal health is vitally important.

So how can we keep our kids active and healthy during the busyness of life?

Here are four tips I believe are beneficial to keeping kids active and healthy:

  1. Model the Behavior
  2. Teach Moderation
  3. Plan Accordingly
  4. Live Life Happy

Model the Behavior

We can tell our kids over and over but until we are living it as well, I don’t think it will sink in. We must live an active healthy life if we want our kids to do the same.

Teach Moderation

I have told you before about my own struggles with moderation and my unhealthy habit of eating when stressed. I don’t want to teach my children this. {My unhealthy eating usually happens after I tuck them into bed.} So I have been focusing on moderation this summer in my own life and teaching my kids to do the same. If I let them, my kids would eat all day. Even healthy snacks all day long would become unhealthy. Teaching them when enough is enough is important.

Plan Accordingly

If you want to live an active and healthy life in your family then you must plan it. It just doesn’t happen. Plan your meals, including children’s lunches at school, and snacks each week. Shop at the store with intention. Don’t grab what you might think is easiest. Choose wisely and healthfully.

Here are 10 Easy Ways to Exercise with Kids:

  1. Bike Ride
  2. Car Wash
  3. Family Walk
  4. Swimming
  5. Tennis
  6. Golf
  7. Swinging
  8. Kick Ball
  9. Dance
  10. Nature Hike

Live Life Happy

Live your life happy. When your kids understand they are loved and that you love yourself and are happy, then they will be much more healthy children and as a result healthier adults.

How do you keep your children healthy and active during this back to school season?
