Exploring My Roots: A Puerto Rico Vacation

This post brought to you by Puerto Rico, The All-Star Island. All opinions are 100% mine.

puerto rico vacation

Have I mentioned here on the blog that my great grandfather was full Puerto Rican? He left Puerto Rico at about the age of 12 by jumping on a ship. Somehow he ended up on the Lummi Indian Reservation in Bellingham, Washington and was adopted my the Native Americans after he married a Native woman. It has been my dream for a long time to visit Puerto Rico. My mother just visited it for the first time this year and had a great time.

Puerto Rico is truly a five-star vacation destination filled with world class attractions. After reading more about this awesome island this week, I have a dream itinerary all planned. Because honestly, my husband and I will be vacationing there. I’ve got to. It is part of my roots. Plus, you don’t need passports or foreign money!

Things To Do On Your Puerto Rico Vacation

My Puerto Rico Vacation

My Puerto Rican vacation would include the following five things:

  1. The Beach
  2. Bioluminescent Bay
  3. El Yunque Rainforest
  4. Camuy Caverns
  5. San Juan

With 270 miles of coastline and featured in the Top Ten Beaches on the Travel Channel – you will find me spending most of my days at the beach in Puerto Rico. In fact, the Flamenco Beach in Culebra is often cited as the best beach in the world! Next on my itinerary is a visit to the Bioluminescent Bays – where I will glow at night!

A visit to the only US National Parks owned rainforest is a must. El Yunque Rainforest is beautiful and lush. Check out this video to see even more:

My husband and I both love exploring caverns so next on my itinerary would be a visit to the caverns at Camuy. These caverns run under the third largest subterranean river in the world! And finally, we couldn’t leave Puerto Rico without exploring the historic city of San Juan.

Whether you’re a golfer, adventurer, foodie, or beach bum, Puerto Rico has something for everyone!

I used to work for a cruise line and San Juan was one of my favorite ports! The forts are really cool and you know, I’ve got nothing against Bacardi ;o) Also there are tons of great little restaurants! It’s a really cool spot.

I can’t wait to go one day. I’ll make it happen. Maybe when the littles are older so I can leave them home with the grandparents!
