Sleeping Tips for Kids

Daylight Savings time really did a number on my Little Man. He still hasn’t recovered. And guess what? Neither have I, because of it! His bedtime was generally between 7 to 7:30 pm before the time change. Now it is consistently 8 – 8:30 pm. But you’d think he would get up later in the morning, right? Nope. In fact, he has been getting up at 5 am and then wanting to go back to sleep at 6:30. You know why? He has to go poo. So the last three mornings, my husband has been gone (he’s the morning person in our marriage) and I have been the one to get up. {I am exhausted!}

Has Daylight Savings time adversely affected your kids?

So here is what I will be doing this week to try and fix the time change’s horrendous effects:

  • No late nap
  • Warm bath at 6:30 pm
  • Calm down time at 7 pm with a story
  • 7:30 pm breastfeeding and bedtime

I think if I am consistent that it will work well for my Little Man. I want to get him back into schedule and back into the routine he does well with. Consistent bedtime routines are key to natural sleep.

  4. Go e-Free in the evening
  5. Teach how to sleep
  6. Going to sleep in not a game
  7. Know the hours of sleep necessary
  8. Brighten the day and stay active
  9. No caffeine for bedtime snack

Do you have any sleeping tips to share that have worked well for you?

Zarbee’s Naturals Childrens Sleep

Developed by pediatrician and father of four Dr. Zak Zarbock, Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep is a safe and effective remedy for occasional sleeplessness*. Children’s Sleep contains just 1 mg of clinically proven melatonin, a hormone that our bodies naturally produce as a part of the sleep cycle, promoting restful sleep* in children 3 years and up. The ingredients in Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep are natural, non-habit forming and won’t leave your little ones feeling groggy the next day.*

Children’s Sleep is particularly helpful in resetting kids’ sleep cycles when periods of disruption – such as change in routine or setting, Daylight Savings Time, or time zone changes during travel – upset routines. Each box of Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep includes the above “Nine Steps to a Good Night’s Sleep” booklet to help parents create healthy sleep habits for the whole family.

I haven’t tried this product. My youngest is always afraid to go to sleep because he thinks he will miss something. I do try to keep a specific bedtime. He sleeps great once he is asleep though. 🙂

My daughter is six and goes to sleep really well and stays asleep. My 1 year old is still waking up a lot. Way too much for his age. This isn’t a product for kids under 3 though. So I think I just will have to struggle a bit with him. I am tired a lot myself! Ha!

Great tips! I have a bit of a routine with my son, but we certainly could do better with it. It doesn’t help that so much depends on the day of the week it is. *sigh*
