Ways to Protect a Climbing Toddler

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Huggies. I received product samples to facilitate my review and to thank me for my participation. Ways to Protect a Climbing Toddler

My toddler is climbing {a lot}. He loves climbing up on anything he possible can.  Yesterday, he actually fell off the dining room chair and hit his head. Thankfully, he didn’t get hurt too bad. First he was walking, then running, and now climbing. Oh my! This Little Man is getting big way to fast! {Stay a baby longer, please?!}

Huggies Slip-on Diapers

This phase is an important one. His curiosity is a way that he learns. The climbing up on things is just one more step in early childhood learning. I just worry that I won’t be there in time to make sure he doesn’t fall.

Here are a few ways to protect a climbing toddler

  • Teach your child to climb stairs correctly
  • Push the dining room chairs in (and make sure other furniture is stable)
  • Put away things that can hurt your toddler
  • Use safety gates
  • Lock windows
  • Be present
  • Be consistent

Thankfully, during this very mobile time, we have HUGGIES® Little Movers Slip‐On® Diapers. I can quickly get this diaper on my squirming toddler. It is a great fit with its stretchy sides. It doesn’t leave red marks or feel tight on his belly either. It also has Leak Lock® Protection which I appreciate!

Is your baby standing?

{Or like mine standing, running and climbing?} Try this Slip-On Diaper – it is an outstanding fit for your standing baby!

My daughter is running around for sure but only climbing on to the couches. I know climbing on more dangerous things is soon to come.. I always have an eye on her though.

Michelle, I try to keep my eyes on my Little Man – he is quick. He hasn’t had a major injury yet so I am praying that it stays that way. With all his energy and no fear of anything I have a feeling that he is going to get hurt a lot!

Tee hee!!! When my daughter was your son’s age, she kept climbing on our coffee table — sturdy and low to the ground, but she’d scream for me to rescue her when she couldn’t get down. One day, I called my husband at work to tell him I would no longer be rescuing her. I pulled all the comforters and pillows from the beds, made a soft landing pad all around the table and let her figure it out. 🙂

Nice post!!!! I especially like the “be present” pointer!

I like that idea, Karen. I am honestly getting to the point where if it isn’t too high, I might just let him fall. That sounds terrible, but I want him to figure it out…

Thanks Cindy! It is a phase all the 1 year olds go through, I guess 🙂

I am thankful that my youngest son isn’t a big climber unlike my middle child (he was part monkey as a toddler).

My daughter was a bit of a climber but not like this guy! We’ll see how long it lasts…

Great tips – it’s so impossible to keep them from climbing, at least we can try to protect them a bit for when they do.

Your little one is so adorable! When my daughter was younger she was always climbing on something, scaring me! The day she climbed out of her crib was the end of me ever getting any rest for a while!

Thanks, Rachee! It can be scary. we don’t have a crib but I know if we did, he’d be over the side and falling on the floor. Thankfully, we have carpet. But still scary!

I feel your pain. I found this while researching ways for my daughter to climb safely indoors. Thanks for sharing this. 🙂
