Winter Hair Help!

February 10, 2014 By LaVonne

winter hair

Do you suffer from dry hair in the winter? I definitely do. {And since we’ve be here in Baton Rouge, swimming in an indoor chlorinated pool, it is even worse!} I have thick hair that can get dry and frizzy in the winter months, so I know I need help.

All hair can get weak and brittle in the winter months. So it is important to take of it. Here are a five tips for your winter hair:

  • hot water damages hair by stripping the natural oils so even though it is cold you don’t want to turn that temperature up too high
  • choose a gentle shampoo that is packed with oil to wash your hair with
  • just like your skin gets dry and you add moisture, add a moisturizer to your locks
  • the less time you dry with a hair dryer the better on winter hair
  • eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water (it shows in your skin and your hair!):

This last week I have been using some new products on my hair. Let me tell you, they have worked wonders already! The TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner has made my usually thick and frizzy hair, soft and smooth. I have also been using Suave’s excellent oil treatment and with just a dime sized amount I am getting some shine! I LOVE Suave already, but now this new product has me hooked.

I absolutely love Aussie’s deep conditioner. It’s a great price and works so well. I knew that hot water was bad for your skin but not your hair also.

It makes sense though – you need the oils in your hair and hot water breaks down and rinses out oils. I love me a good hot shower too! I’ve been covering my hair more with a cap and shampooing every other day instead.

Very helpful tips and the overall post as well.
Though we are not having winter here – to avoid damage on hair strand do not crunch your hair too much with towel wet hair is sensitive so just wrap it with towel and let it dry on air naturally.

I also read once that instead of using a towel to use a paper towel to dry it. Thanks for this tip!

I actually never use a hair dryer (I don’t even own one!), so that is one thing I do year round. It’s hard for me to use conditioners with a ton of oil because of allergies (if it touches my skin I get hives—yikes!). I definitely tire of how harsh winter is on the body in general. I’m looking forward to spring!

      I am looking forward to spring too. Please Spring come! {I don’t dry my hair either. I just don’t have the time. LOL!}

Like I said above, I love Suave. I saw a consumer test done on my local news channel and the Suave products did just as well as the professional ones in the salon. But the price is so affordable! The Suave product above is my absolute favorite now. Try it for sure. You’ll love it.

I usually only use a hair dryer a couple times a week. If my husband were home, I’d probably use it more often, but I don’t put as much effort into my appearance (other than working out) when he’s away, hahah. I definitely feel that my hair isn’t as glossy right now. It needs help! (Side note- Dove shampoo smells AMAZING.)

On another side note, Elisebet – I LOVE Dove too. Their real beauty campaigns really sucked me in. I love them for doing that!

Great tips. I don’t blow Dry mainly since it is broke. When I did it was on med/low. I will have to try the TRESemmé® Keratin Smooth I seem to have gotten really frizzy this winter

I’ve really enjoy the Keratin Smooth shampoo and conditioner. I have been using it every other day this past week and the frizzy hair I am used to has really settled down. My hair looks sleek!

I just recently started using the Dove Pure Care Dry Oil and love how it smells and how it makes my hair feel but it seems to make my hair frizzy and dull in appearance. Maybe it’s just my hair, I don’t know.

I just started using a similar product from Suave and love how it is handling my frizzy hair.

Yes, we went from Washington to Baton Rouge this month. We’ve had this pool that is super chlorinated and my skin is so dry! My husband’s hands are even cracking around the knuckles!

I love anything that moisturizes since it’s so dry here. I use a leave in conditioner and curl cream to make sure my hair doesn’t dry and friz out.
