REPREVE is a recycled fiber that helps turn plastic bottles you recycle into cool stuff you can wear and use every day. Now there’s no excuse not to recycle! A lot of brands you love use REPREVE to make their products greener:
• Volcom graphic t-shirts are made with REPREVE, using 2 recycled plastic bottles.
• One Patgonia fleece jacket with REPREVE has 40 recycled plastic bottles, so you can be a real “active-ist.”
• Life Khaki by Haggar uses REPREVE to put 7 recycled plastic bottles in every pair of pants; so wear what you believe.
Other brands made with REPREVE: The North Face, Polartec, Patagonia, Beija-Flor, Lauren Conrad’s XO(eco) by Blue Avocado, Swiftwick socks, and more.
The luckiest plastic bottles get made into a recycled fleece beanie made from REPREVE. One REPREVE green beanie is made from 6 recycled plastic bottles.
5 Tips to Teach Kids to #TurnItGreen
Here are five things that we are teaching our children about leading a greener lifestyle.
- Recycling – we pay extra each month to have a recycling pick up. We are teaching our children which items are recyclable and which are not.
- Turn Out the Lights – when you leave the room, turn out the lights. My husband is a stickler about this one. During the day we often leave the lights out. Thankfully, we have skylights in our home to let natural light in.
- Unplug Electronics – this is another easy thing we are teaching our kids. We unplug electronics when they are not being used. And when we leave for traveling, we unplug all big items too.
- Bring Reusable Shopping Bags – when shopping, grabbing a handful of reusable shopping bags is easy to do and it is good for the environment.
- Shopping Local – we have tried to cut out much of the processed foods we eat, and we have shopped more local real foods this past year. This is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and much healthier for our bodies.
What ways are you teaching your kids to lead a more sustainable life?
I’d love to hear more ideas!

I am so glad I started my kids young with the recycling. Now they hate to throw anything a way. Also I think it spurs creativity. My kids are often thinking and sharing alternate uses for stuff we would have normally thrown away.
LaVonne says
We do like to use stuff we would normally throw away to make crafts or toys. Sometimes my daughter wants to do this more often than I do….

It is amazing that these companies are able to turn plastic water bottles into clothing! And I truly believe that every child should at least know the basics of recycling. I remember learning about in elementary school. I think we even learned how to make our own paper!

I was recently at JC Penney and saw more REPREVE products in their home section. Very cute lunch bags, casserole bags, and sandwich bags – I was excited to see this there on sale!
Elizabeth (Rock-A-Bye Parents) says
We’ve got all of those down! I’m big into recycling and do as much I can. I love to know that recycling can do so much good.

I think it’s SO cool that they can turn plastic bottles into apparel. Wow, just image if they did this years ago. The landfills wouldn’t be so full.
LaVonne says
Right? Recycled plastic fiber? Amazing!
Danielle @ We Have It All says
It’s great to start kids out knowing about recycling. We recycle, use reusable bags and shop local as much as we can. Now getting everyone to unplug – that’s the tough one.
LaVonne says
My husband is such a stickler about it, it is becoming normal for us. It took awhile though.
Karen says
I think it is great that companies are trying to find ways to recycle plastic bottles. there are so many of thme around now.
LaVonne says
I think it is great too Karen. One less bottle in our landfill is great. {6 in the case of the green beanie!}

Recycling has come a LONG way! This is simply amazing! At home my boys help me wit the recycling. And we reuse paper as many times as possible (color on both sides, cut into pieces and pretend they are trash so they can use their garbage truck toy, etc.).

It’s such a great idea to start kids out early so they are thinking about recycling and ways to repurpose from a young age. Great tips. Off to check out Repreve.
