This post brought to you by The Orkin Ecologist. All opinions are 100% mine.
Are you afraid of bugs?
I am. I have talked about my phobia before. I am not ashamed to say it. I am terrified of bugs. But as you can see my daughter is not afraid of bugs. {Though for some reason, she is starting to show a fear of spiders only. But who can blame her?} That gigantor stick bug above, after I shot that photo at an insectarium, she let it crawl up her arm. Can you say gross? I would have died if that was crawling up my arm.
Many people are afraid of bugs. That is why Orkin has started this pretty awesome (in my opinion) website – the Orkin Ecologist. Orkin has made it their business to study bugs, so why not create this great website for people to learn about bugs? It is a genius idea.
On the Orkin Ecologist website you will learn about theย worldโs scariest bugs, bug phobias, facts about bugs, see scary up close pictures of bugs, and so much more. Don’t you want to check it out? Well, you might not but I am sure your kids will. I know my daughter, who starts science this next semester for homeschool Kindergarten, would be very excited to see bugs close up. She’d also be fascinated to learn all about the world’s scariest ones. Me? I was a little scared just looking at it. (I better not have nightmares, Orkin!)
Pull up the Orkin Ecologist website, show your kids, they’ll think it is cool. Your husband probably will too, if he is anything like mine.
While you’re at it, why don’t you connect with the Orkin Ecologist:

Really, the Orkin Ecologist is so well done. It is laid out magazine style with many arrows forward and backward. There are many links you can also jump around to. as well. Orkin has done a great job on an education website that is sure to please the novice scientist to the very well educated in your home!
Now, tell me honestly which bugs scare you?
Spiders are pretty high on the list, but bugs with a shell like beetles and cockroaches are pretty terrifying for me. I don’t even want a lady bug to land on me. Really.

I’m absolutely terrified of spiders! I didn’t used to be when I was younger so I don’t know why I’m getting more afraid as I get older. I’m happy you posted this info though because I’m doing everything I can to make sure my 3 year old daughter doesn’t end up as afraid of bugs as me and this will surely help. Thanks!!
LaVonne says
I don’t want my 5 year old to be scared either. I need someone to get rid of them when daddy isn’t home ๐
Tara O. says
Ha! Good point! I need someone to kill them for me too!
Christy Garrett @ Uplifting Families says
I am afraid of bugs myself. The weirdest bug that I have seen in the last year was a Wheel Bug.
LaVonne says
I don’t even want to know what that is, Christy. LOL! ๐
Dee Mauser says
Icky, ick, ICK! I hate bugs, especially the hairy spider type. They gross me out! I do like butterflies though. They’re so colorful, and carefree. They shouldn’t be classified as bugs. hehee!
LaVonne says
You are right Dee. Butterflies are the only bug I like too. They do need to call them something else… How about mini-birds?
andi says
i’m scared of bugs, too….. ๐
Pamela R says
I don’t really get too creep out by any bugs—but I surly don’t want bed bugs in my home!
LaVonne says
We travel so much, that I always worry about bed bugs. But we haven’t brought them home yet… And hopefully never do!
Marysa says
I’m not a fan of bugs.. and WOW at that gigantic stick bug! I’ve never seen anything like that, that is really gross!
LaVonne says
We just happened to be there when the worker was cleaning the bug’s enclosure. So he pulled it out to let my daughter and husband get a closer look. I stood far far away. ๐
Jennifer Clay says
There are certain bugs that I am scared of…that spider YUCK!!
LaVonne says
I scrolled past that spider pretty quickly when replying back to you. But, if you go to the site, Orkin Ecologist, you’ll learn that that particular spider is harmless. ๐
Mitch Ryan says
I don’t squirm like others, but I also do not like touching or the idea of bugs (any bugs for that matter) crawling on my skin.
Tammy Graham @ LoveMy2Dogs says
I don’t mind spiders but those crazy things with the millions of legs or those stick bugs or praying mantis type bugs. Eeek! You can find me running the opposite direction!!
Mimi says
Oh my gosh, those bugs are freaking me out! I’m not a fan of any bug unless it’s a lightening bug. lol I’ve been watching that show Infested and it totally creeps me out! lol
LaVonne says
I just saw a show on TV last night about bed bugs. Yuck!!! I shouldn’t be watching those shows! Nightmares!!!
Lexie Lane says
I think that no matter what explanation or thought I’m given, I will always have the instinct to be afraid of them. In fact, my hairs are standing now just thinking of them! Yuck!
Jennifer @ The Quirky Momma says
I can’t say I have a bug phobia, but I will go far out of my way to avoid touching them. I HATE live and bedbugs, like to the point where I hear about lice or bedbugs and I go from rational to 100% irrational. Hairy spiders are the worst for me, they really ‘get’ me.
