Thanksgiving Traditions

I have always loved Thanksgiving. Growing up my parents hosted our family dinners, and still do now. We invite family from both nearby reservations and have always had a large gathering of family, friends, food, fun and games.

It has been a tradition to eat at 2pm. Then we visit and play games for the rest of the afternoon. It is not unusual for family members to stay until 9 or 10 pm.

It is a long fun filled day.

For the last 10 years a popular dish for the vegetarians in our family has been Tofurky. I make it each year following the recipe on the box. It is simple and delicious.

But as I was searching online I found 2 great recipes that I just might have to try. What do you think? Should I try the Maple Pecan Roast recipe or the Yam Good Cranberry recipe?

What I am thinking is I might have to buy 2 roasts. One to make the traditional way and one to make a new way. (Just in case, I don’t like the new way.)

Another great tradition we have is Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving. I am definitely brining out Bing and Nat on Friday!

We have been working on a simple Christmas song with our Princess this week: We Wish You A Merry Christmas. She loves it. In fact, she really loves singing. Part of her homeschool has now included learning new songs. In the last two weeks she has learned, “I’m a Little Teapot” and “He’s Able“. I will have to upload her singing one of those soon!

And of course, when the sun goes down on Friday, we celebrate family time by putting up our Christmas tree together. I just love this time of year!

What are some of your great Thanksgiving traditions? I’d love to hear them.
