We are home from our unexpected trip to Southern California. You think I would be prepared for this trip since we travel so much. I mean, we had a 10 night camping trip this summer! But, no matter how well the Princess and I travel – it was miserable! I can’t lie.
Actually my Princess may have done better than I did. She slept a lot and watched her personal DVD player. I could not get comfortable; I could not sleep. We traveled in a 15 passenger van with uncomfortable seats and no headrests! So, I am exhausted now that we are back.
We did have a great time though. We were able to visit with my aunt and have a luncheon with her children and grandchildren. That was wonderful – to connect with family members we don’t know very well. It was also fun for my Princess to travel with my parents and my mother’s siblings. She now has “new friends”, my 3 uncles.
One last great highlight of the trip was having a BBQ with my in laws. My mother in law lived 45 miles away from my aunt and so we planned an evening with her and the family. The Princess had a blast with her cousins – 3 boys under age 6. She even got some new toys and a black eye (a run in with a glass coffee table).
Ten Random Things From the Trip:
- Turn the air on/off (it is difficult to please 9 passengers)
- Turn up/down the radio (ditto)
- Can we go to the bathroom? (you don’t even want to know how many stops we made)
- Can you plug this in? (We had so many iPods, DVD players, and laptops it was funny)
- Is anyone else hungry?
- Do we have any junk food?
- “Angels all around our van” (the Princess’ favorite prayer)
- The prayer that got our air conditioning working again. (90s in California is not fun when you don’t have working air conditioning. Thank you Jesus for answering our prayers.)
- Meals and fellowship with our sick aunt (the real purpose of the trip)
- Are we there yet? or Where are we? (Arriving home is always the best feeling)
