At first, when she started saying it, we thought it was funny. We didn’t know where she picked it up. It is scary what a little sponge she is becoming! She copies almost everything we say. After two weeks of “No Way”, we are getting tired, and upset with her for saying it.
Mommy: “Pick up your puzzle pieces, please.”
Bella: “No way.”
Mommy: “Don’t let your slime (church craft) sit out, it will dry out.”
Bella: “No way.”
Mommy: “Grab mommy a diaper, you are very wet.”
Bella: “No way.”
Mommy: “I don’t like this no way business. It is not nice. I don’t want to hear you say it to me anymore.”
Bella: “No way.”
Mommy: “Someone needs a time out, I asked you not to say ‘No way’. Time out – 2 minutes”
Bella: “No way.” Then she proceeds to cry since she is in time out.
Mommy: “I don’t want you to say no way, instead I want to hear, ‘Okay Mommy’. Please practice saying that.”
Bella: “Otay, Mama.” (She cannot say her ‘k’ sound right now, so it really does sound like ‘otay’. Which is very cute.)
When daddy got home, I shared the new phrase she learned, and she she proceeded to repeat (over and over) – “Otay, Mama”. He loved it.
