Home Sweet Home

August 15, 2009 By LaVonne

Spread the love

We are so excited to be in the end stages of buying a home. Unexpectedly, we flew up to Washington on Wednesday. The bank wanted our paperwork signed by Thursday, and we were not originally scheduled to fly up here until Friday. Praise God, the inspector could do a 3 hour home inspection Wednesday evening. Thankfully, our house passed the test with flying colors.

Did I mention that we are buying a foreclosure? We are getting a great deal for so much less. A contractor built this home for himself, there are a lot of beautiful upgrades, and he couldn’t keep up with his payments. He owes more on this house than we are buying it for! I was a little hesitant when we originally discussed buying a foreclosure as our first home, but my husband gently reminded me that we are frugal in all areas of our life, saving money on everything, so why not in this area? He was right. (Gasp! Yes he is right quite often). Frugal tip: buy a foreclosure and save thousands (but don’t skimp on a good inspector)!

So now we are just waiting for all the paperwork to be finished but it looks like the house will close on September 15! Whoohoo! Frugal tips: We have been looking at paint at Home Depot, checking Craigslist for furniture, and window shopping at all the shops. We were able to get $10 off $10 purchase coupons for JC Penneys (always look at JC Penney “junk mail” you might be throwing away free money), so we will be buying their luxurious towels on sale this week for $5.99 (in sets of two to maximize the savings). We also have been visiting all the stores for patio furniture. Frugal tip: buy patio furniture as the season ends since it will be on clearance. K-mart had a nice Martha Stewart table that seats 6 for $54! (No chairs though, so I didn’t get that one.)

After renting for 10 years (oh did I mention it is our 10 year anniversary tomorrow?), I am beyond excited to be buying our own home. What joy for this wife and mother. God is abundantly good to me! (I don’t deserve it, but He loves me more than I can imagine, for which I am eternally thankful.)
