Well, we had a 9:20 am appt. today at the vet. They took blood from him and will send it to the lab for a battery of tests (including the test for diabetes). We will get a call sometime tomorrow morning with the results. I don’t want to worry until I hear the results. (But I am still worried.) DJ has not been eating at all. Early in the week he was still eating but the last 3 days he hasn’t had much more than a little salmon, and less than 10 dog treats. Tonight we gave him some chicken broth, which he drank a little of. He just wants water. He lost 5 lbs this week. Tyler is very worried of course. DJ has gone everywhere with us these last 7 1/2 years. He is a faithful companion and we hate to see him so sick. So please continue to pray for him.
At the vet, they asked Tyler to try and get a urine sample and bring it back. They also asked for a fecal sample, but DJ has not been eating much so a fecal sample is more difficult. So right when Tyler got home, DJ wanted to go outside. This was our chance! I was doubtful, I mean how do you get a urine sample from a dog? But Tyler braved the rain and followed DJ to his “spot”. Right when DJ lifted his leg, Tyler was there with the cup ready to get the sample. And don’t you know that Tyler got the sample, put the lid on and didn’t even get a drop of pee on him! Tyler is so good at everything! So he drove back to the vet immediately and gave them their sample, which they were suprised happpened so quickly. Once Tyler got home, DJ wanted to go out again for potty. This time we could tell he was looking for a place to squat. So I pulled out an old sour cream container and we waited. Sure enough DJ went poo and it wasn’t runny, but solid enough to pick up for a sample. So Tyler drove back to the vet with a fecal sample too! We praise God that we can get DJs blood, urine and fecal matter all tested. You can thank God for poop right? ๐ Despite the seriousness of the situation, it was a little funny to see Tyler getting those samples.
I should mention that the last two nights, Tyler has slept beside DJ (his baby) and taken him out like 8-10 times per night for potty. He is a great Master. I am thankful for him!
