Pumpkin Dump Cake Recipe

Spread the love

pumpkin dump cake recipe

We made another dump cake this week for church potluck. And by we, I mean, my Princess, who is 4, did most of the work. We like making dump cakes since they are simple and easy. Last week we made a peach dump cake and it was a hit. My mom makes a pumpkin dump cake similar to the one we made with only slight variations.

Now that we made this pumpkin dump cake for church potluck, my Princess cannot wait to help Nana make it for Thanksgiving. It really turned out well, and tasted great. Everyone at church loved it. We were able to bring a few pieces back home and it was “gobbled” up by my Princess and my husband. I should mention that my Princess does not like pumpkin pie – at all. But, she loves pumpkin dump cake.

Many recipes you find online for pumpkin dump cake call for pure pumpkin and seasonings. We used pumpkin pie filling since it is simply pumpkin with the seasonings already added. It made it much easier for us to make with a preschooler and when we are traveling we don’t like to buy a lot of seasonings.

pumpkin dump cake recipe

Mix pumpkin pie filling, evaporated milk, eggs, and sugar.

{We should have used a larger bowl. My Princess had to stir very carefully, which she does not like to do.}

Pour this mixture in the bottom of your baking dish.

Mix a box of yellow cake mix with one stick of melted Country Crock.

Sprinkle this mixture over your liquid pumpkin mixture.

Optional: sprinkle with chopped walnuts or pecans as well.

{Don’t worry the cake mixture will sink into the pumpkin liquid but it will bake separate.}

Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Voila!

Serve with whipped topping or ice cream!

    This looks so wonderful!!!! I will be trying it for sure! Our tradition started with my Great Grandmothers recipe for rum cake. It is made in the evening. With the adage one shot for the cake glaze one shot for the baker… That is of course after the young ones are fast asleep. These rum cakes have helped our family pay for our Thanksgiving meal and many Christmas presents as my Grandmother had folks , literally, lined up to buy one or 3! Gosh I miss her. I always feel her close by when I wear her apron and make her glaze and choke a shot of rum down. I really do not like the taste of rum in shot form BUT who am I to mess with tradition?
