Vegetarian Tacos

September 18, 2010 By LaVonne

Spread the love

We love vegetarian tacos. Really, it is one of our favorite meals. Since we don’t eat hamburger we use a vegetable source – TVP. Or textured vegetable protein.

This product is made from reduced fat soy beans and is gluten free. The ingredient list only has one ingredient: defatted soy flour. It has 12 grams of protein per 1/4 cup and only 80 calories!

We soak equal amounts of TVP and boiling water and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I then add Simply Organic Taco seasonings to the “meat”. Then heat it up together.

After cutting up all the fixings’ – lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives – and then adding cheese, sour cream, salsa and guacamole, you have one FABULOUS Taco. Meat eaters cannot even tell the difference. I have served it to them, I know. But I bet your heart can tell the difference.

Another plus? My picky Princess ate 2 tacos by herself. Loves them.

We’ll have to try these, but where do we get the TPV?

TVP can be found in bulk sections of the health food store and also on Amazon. I have seen it in grocery stores prepackaged sold by Bob’s Red Mill too.

Let me know how you like it.
