Lawn Care

For Dummies

Because I need it more than anyone else.

I don’t even want to show you a picture of what my lawn currently looks like. After being gone camping for ten days we came home to some DEAD grass. Since this is the first time we actually care about our lawn – you know, when it was a rental we didn’t care so much – I decided to do some investigation on lawn care. More specifically, How to Get Your Dead Grass Green?

Introducing my favorite way to research – Googleit! And you know what? It is not too hard. Even a person, with no experience in lawn care can do it.

  1. Water you lawn. Early in the morning (not cool since I am not an early bird, but oh well.) Really soak it. I might just have to utitilize  my child labor that I have available to help with this one. Or invest in a sprinkler.
  2. Fertilize your lawn twice per year. Once in the spring and once mid-summer. Since I think July still qualifies as mid-summer, I am going to do this soon. Off to find some organic fertilizer and a fertilizer spreader for equal distribution. Any recommendations on fertilizer?
  3. Spot treat those brown spots with a grass repair kit. I thought this link was cool, the Today show has a great video ,or you can read the text, showing how easy it is to treat those brown spots. In 4 days, Voila!, you will have some green grass. I need that!
  4. A good mulching lawn mower set at a higher blade length does great during the summer. We have not had rain here for 3 weeks, (which is amazing in the Pacific NW), and we made the mistake of cutting our lawn too short. Too short = dead grass. Now we know.

Now isn’t that easy? I should have read all these tips BEFORE summer began, then maybe I would not have the ugliest grass on the block. You know, if all these tips work, I might just post a before and after photo, proving how easy it all is.
