Canoe Journey 2010: Extended Camping?

Extended camping with a toddler for ten days?

Am I crazy?

Okay, we have arrived at our destination on Monday – the Makah Indian Reservation. Whew! What a long week. I was definitely ready to be done camping. If you know me you will know that I am not a big camping kind of girl. A weekend camping trip is about all that I can handle, usually. So ten days of camping was getting old!

But what a trip. You get such a sense of awe and humility when you watch all the canoes land with hundreds and hundreds of other Native Americans standing on the beach all around you. It was amazing. The first time I saw our canoe land, tears actually formed in my eyes. It is amazing to be a part of a larger culture. A culture where you’re family with everyone around you.

We camped, we sang, we ate and cooked lots, we traveled, we set up tents and took them down continually, we played games, and we made a lifetime of memories.
