Jerusalem Gate

In 2018, my husband and I went on a trip to Israel with a group of pastors and educators. We had two weeks of historical sights, an amazing tour guide, and daily devotional talks that made each place we visited come alive. It was a trip of a lifetime! One of our stops was, of course, Jerusalem, and the Temple Mount.

The Temple Mount, also known as the Noble Sanctuary, and sometimes as Jerusalem’s holy esplanade, is a hill in the Old City of Jerusalem that has been venerated as a holy site for thousands of years, including in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Temple Mount

My husband had to wear a provided skirt to cover his legs, and I wrapped a scarf around my bare shoulders. There were armed guards, and a feeling that you needed to be on your absolute best behavior. Even taking pictures, I was reticent about getting too many.

The Temple Mount is a great site for Christians to visit. This is where Jesus, in the book of Luke, teaches at the age of 12. In John, Jesus drives out the merchants and money changers from the Temple. It is also likely where Jesus rode by in His triumphant entry just before his death, also in the book of Luke. It was exciting and humbling for my husband and me to be at this site – a place where Jesus walked.

Dome of the Rock

Tyler and I were even able to experience an archaeology dig near the Temple, where we sifted Jerusalem soil. It was an awesome experience. So when I was offered a chance to review a Temple Mount Soil pendant, I was happy to say yes. Now, I have one more very cool keepsake to attach to my great memories.

In 1999, a large-scale construction at the Temple Mount resulted in the removal of tons of soil. In this soil, archaeologists were able to recover thousands of artifacts. In late 2024, the Temple Mount Sifting Project decided to sell Temple Mount soil that was free of artifacts.
