Earn Extra Cash By Becoming an Insurance Sales Rep

Earn Extra Cash

August is preparation month for parents with school aged children. School is almost back in session and making sure that they’re ready is important. If you’re like me, buying the necessary school supplies, clothing, and other necessities can really be expensive for a family living on a tight budget. Getting a part time job is a great way to earn extra cash. One very popular choice for those who don’t want to necessarily start their own business but could use an additional check is becoming a health insurance sales rep.

What is a Health Insurance Sales Rep?

A health insurance sales rep is an independent contractor that sales health insurance for a commission. Many people prefer becoming independent sales representatives because there’s no upfront costs, no liabilities (as an entrepreneur or small business owner would have), you can earn as much as you want, and you set your own hours. Ideally you’re not under immediate supervision so you have the flexibility of an entrepreneur without all the added costs that come along with running your own operations.

Which Companies Hire Independent Sales Reps?

With insurance being a mandatory service now, more health insurance companies are hiring independent sales representatives to increase their sales. It can be fairly easy to determine which companies are currently hiring. By doing a quick internet search of various health companies, you can check out their website to see which careers they have available. For example, the USHealth Group has a hire/career section where you can get a brief understanding of the position requirements.

Choosing the Right Company

While you don’t necessarily have a “boss” as an independent sales representative you still want to make sure that you do your due diligence before signing up to be a contractor. You want to make sure that you’re working for a health insurance provider that has quality products to offer. There’s no sense in being employed by a company that has expensive insurance as most households are looking for quality and affordability. Do a little background check by looking at social media pages and the better business bureau to make sure there has been no serious complaints against the company. If you were interested in working for USHealth Group Insurance, reviewing their Facebook page would give you an idea of what products they offer, how many followers they have, and even how other insurance reps like the position.

Count Your Coins and Save

Once you’ve found the right health insurance company to work for all that’s left to do is set up shop and begin earning extra cash. Since most companies pay on a predetermined commission base, you’ll need to factor exactly how much you’ll need for back to school shopping and determine how many insurance policies you’ll need to sell over the next few weeks to meet your goal. Every time you receive a payment, simply put the money in an interest bearing savings account for safe keeping.

That’s all there is to it. If you know several people without health insurance or believe you have great selling skills then this is the part time job for you. It’s fairly easy to set up, no set hours, and the ability to make as much as you want. Of course this isn’t the only way to earn extra cash before the school season starts, but it is certainly a great place to start!
