Our Potty Training Experience

June 6, 2014 By LaVonne

Spread the love

I documented our experience with potty training my Princess quite frequently four plus years ago. It was a long transition for our family. I bought her a fun pink potty chair when she was 18 months. I had high hopes and expectations of potty training. But you know what? My daughter wasn’t fully potty trained until she was 34 months. Yep, no more diapers or Pull-ups at 2 years old and 10 months. What a long ordeal! I learned a lot and even wrote an entire post with “10 Potty Training Tips“.

Our Potty Training Experience

You know what? My Little Man just turned two this last weekend. You’ll see a blog post about our Cars party pretty soon on the blog. I let him go potty on his sister’s old pink potty chair when he asks to. {Do you buy all new things for your second child?} I put him on the toilet (with his turtle toilet seat) occasionally. I am not pushing it with child number two. He did go poo-poo twice this last week on his potty chair. I was pretty happy about that. But, I learned with my Princess – ย when the child is ready, they are ready. And in that in-between time? I am thankful for Pull-ups.

Do you know how many times I’ve woken up with wet sheets when my Princess was potty training? We have co-slept with both kids. My Princess is in her own bed now but my Little Man is still with me. This is the summer of our transition though! They have a bunk bed with new bedding in their room.

But, no big boy underwear for him at night until he is completely potty trained. There are few things I dislike more than having to get up in the middle of the night to remove sheets from my bed because a child has wet my bed. Yuck! I am sleep deprived enough as it is!

What was your child’s potty training experience like?

Great tips. Potty training can be challenging.

Thanks, Mel. Yes, it can be very challenging. But it will be over before I know it. It goes by so fast!

Some of my kids have been easy while some others have been tougher. My youngest is afraid of the flushing toilet currently, so I imagine she’s gonna be a tough one, too lol

My daughter isn’t scared but she hates when the toilets are loud. She screams and covers her ears every time. And she is six!

(Our Potty Training Experience) I have always said, when they are ready to do this and stick to it you will know. My three sons were a little bit more stubborn at training time then my daughter was.

That’s a good point. Once they are ready – you must be persistent. My son might stay in diapers until he is five if I am not consistent ๐Ÿ™‚

I really wish that my youngest would go potty every time. He won’t do it unless he gets a gummy bear. Its driving me bonkers. Oh well he will get there soon.

I keep telling my hubby that you don’t see 7 year olds who aren’t potty training. It’ll happen ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love the bear sitting on the pot ๐Ÿ™‚ I was lucky in that my son went to Grandma’s for a day and came home potty trained!

You are so lucky, Emily. What I wouldn’t give for it to happy that quickly ๐Ÿ™‚ BTW, I love your snickers and caramel apple dip!

My son was 3 1/2 when he was finally fully potty trained, and what a glorious moment that was!

Honestly, it will be very nice once we pass the diaper stage. It seems like it goes by slowly but now looking back at my six year old – it went by too fast!
