Meaningful Travel and Connection with Family

Teffeteller Family Reunion

We went to the Welk Resort in Southern California for my husband’s annual family again this summer. Hot days, bright sunshine and a cool pool – makes for a great family vacation, don’t you think?

My kids look forward to Welk all year long because they get to play with all their cousins at the pool and on the grass behind our rooms until the sun goes down. Every night, they are so exhausted from playing so hard, and honestly I am too. This can lead to some tired decisions, like eating junk food or not wanting to eat a healthy meal. What is it about vacation time and eating unhealthy food? Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this?

Something super helpful during our trip is that our units are equipped with a full kitchen, so we can make all our meals. However, I have been eating fewer meals and more snacks in this hot Southern California weather – foods I don’t normally eat.

Thankfully, the day we arrived, I made it to the local Walmart to pick up two boxes of my favorite snack – Fiber One bars! This is the kind of snack I can feel great about eating. Not only are Fiber One bars portable, but they also have a great amount of fiber! For example, the Oats & Peanut Butter bar seen above is delicious and has 9 grams of fiber per serving (35% of fiber and only 3 grams of fat)!

When on vacation, there is nothing worse than having some digestive issues. Getting in a good amount of daily fiber keeps me feeling full and regular, making it easier for me to have a great time with the family!

Building Sand Castles

Since my sister-in-law was diagnosed with brain cancer, my husband’s parents have decided to use their Welk timeshare points to house all their kids for an entire week. It’s a great time to reconnect with family we haven’t seen all year. It’s hard living in a different state than the rest of your family, but coming together each summer at a nice resort is such a blessing!

Too Small for the Waterslide

My kids are building memories with their California family that I know they’ll look back on as adults with fondness and a great sense of love and nostalgia. That’s the kind of family travel I appreciate. The meaningfulness of it all – it truly makes my heart full!
