10 Things to Do in Friday Harbor

September 13, 2012 By LaVonne

Spread the love

We live close enough to the Washington State ferry system on Fidalgo Island that when family come and visit us we love to take a ferry out to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. We had the privilege of hosting my husband’s parents last week and thankfully we had lovely weather. {Did you know we almost broke a record in Seattle for days without rain? We went 48 days! The record is 51 days. Crazy!}

When we visit Friday Harbor there are things we love to do. It never gets old. Each year when we make a visit we love to do the same fun things.

Here are 10 Things to Do in Friday Harbor:

1. Visit the open air market and shops in downtown Friday Harbor. Though we don’t buy too much, we still love to browse around the shops.

2.  Take a leisurely drive around the island, looking at the natural beauty of the island. It is “island time”, so plan on just taking it easy.

3.  Visit Roche Harbor and eat a picnic lunch.

4.  Walk the docks at Roche Harbor and play a game of “which boat would you choose”.

5.  Tour Pelindaba Lavendar Farm. Buy organic lavender products that smell lovely and make great gifts.

6. Visit Limekiln State Park and watch for Orca whales.

7.  Visit Limekiln Lighthouse.

8.  Visit the Alpacas at Krystal Acres.

9. Islanders are so generous and friendly: keep your eyes open for free items at the end of driveways and wave at everyone passing by.

10. Park at the ferry a couple hours before it leaves and eat dinner at a fun spot looking out over the water.

There are more than 10 things to do in Friday Harbor, obviously. There are hundreds. These are 10 of the things we like to do in Friday Harbor when we visit.

Have you been to the San Juan Islands before?

If not, you MUST visit. Summer is beautiful and green, you won’t be disappointed.

I loved taking the Ferry while I lived out in Seattle. Some of the most calming trips you can make. I wish I took the Ferry out to San Juan before I left!

If you come back to the area, you must, Manda. It is worth it. Thanks for stopping by. I will head to your site next!

I hadn’t realized you lived in the same general area I do! How fun.
I have a friend in Friday Harbor, nice to know some fun things to do if I ever visit her.
